Key Responsibilities
· Manage APAC packaging engineer team by leading, coaching, and mentoring the team to accomplish the responsibilities and grow the capability continuously.
· Cooperate with Packaging Product Creation team to meet project timelines, project quality and innovation efforts, to be leader for manufacturing process in design for manufacturing.
· Assign packaging engineers to join each specific project to support structure design and printing development, complete design review for Spec Pack, develop product test plan, conduct ISTA testing in factory side and provide comments from engineering & manufacturing perspective, be responsible for PP and PSA sample review and approval.
· Hands-on for at least 25% of total NPD projects and drive results independently through standard packaging NPD process.
· Proactively communicate project status and resource capacity with PJM and the project team.
· Drives the coordination between APAC packaging engineer team and other function teams, focusing on technical communication and alignment with factories.
· Partner with internal team and factories to ensure products are appropriately documented through a technical specification package, work Instructions are appropriately documented for manufacturing processes and receive necessary change management for both.
· Partner with sourcing teams to ensure projects meet financial targets
· Build factory packaging engineering capability assessment system and drive for continuous improvement to have the product creation process more smoothly and shorten the lead-time.
· Works closely with QA/QE to solve technical issues related to packaging product function and performance.
· Drive and organize periodic engineering seminar within engineering team and with cross functional teams by case study, lesson learning and experience/knowledge sharing.
· Deliver tasks assigned on time and efficiently in a positive and collaborative manner. Delivery includes both the technical considerations, as well manager responsibilities.
· Identify, investigate, and adapt tools and techniques for product and process improvement, demonstrate excellent time-management, problem prevention and problem-solving skills.
· Mentor and develop the packaging engineer team by identifying educational and professional development opportunities for team members and work out their development plan.
· Lead factories’ KPI criteria setup, review performance quarterly and provide feedback in QBR meetings.
· Lead team to collect innovative ideas about sustainable PKG material and solution from all T1 factories. Summarize information and review rating result with steering team, providing inputs for quarterly QBR review.
· Lead packaging team to setup PQM, factories’ score card, NPD process improvement and color approval process.
· Partner closely with Stanley sourcing team to engage and train the manufacturing partners on industry best engineering practices for packaging capabilities setup.
· Attend regular meetings with cross functional teams and be able to provide updates, relay actions and improvements made, and point out risks and plans to offset.
Skills and Experience
· Strong process-wise thinking and logical analytical capability.
· Good knowledge in structural packaging and printing technology, material, equipment, manufacturing processes and industrial transit packaging testing procedures (ISTA, ISO, ASTM…).
· Extensive knowledge of manufacturing processes and associated product design requirements for processes including, but not limited to, primary packaging making, secondary packaging making and tertiary packaging making.
· Good knowledge of Six sigma methodology and tools (DFSS, DMAIC, DOE, Value Stream Mapping, Risk Assessment).
· Qualification process knowledge in best practices such as PPAP, validation/verification through DFMEA/Test Plan/PFMEA/Control Plan
· Capability to partner with functional teams to assemble a robust technical specification package to capture packaging product design intent, requirements, and expectations.
· Rich experience in project/team management and very familiar with project process, Skilled at prioritizing tasks and managing timelines.
· Expert with ESKO and other professional software. Design & Artwork development experience is a plus.
· Competence with PLM is desired. Experience in Centric or other PLM software is a plus.
· Strong verbal, written and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally in English and Mandarin, rich experience on working and communicating directly with US based product creation teams.
· Ability to work accurately with close attention to detail.
· Habit of taking the initiative and the ability to work independently and as part of a team, ability to work with global team to complete task well
· Excellent onsite experience to do trouble shooting for any packaging related issues in factories
· Out of the box thinker, yet analytical and with a bias for process.
· Strong planning & implementation skills, adherence to timelines a must.
· Ability to influence to gain the best outcome for Stanley packaging products.
· Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
Education and Requirements:
· Bachelor's degree or above, major in packaging or equivalent engineering Discipline, preferred.
· 10+ years of experience in brand packaging for consumer hard / soft goods industry with global reach.
· 5+ years of experience in hands-on packaging design, development and manufacturing.
· 5+ years of experience in team management.
· Solid experience of technical writing, documentation and presentation
· Confidence working with, and presenting to internal and external stakeholders
· Direct experience communicating directly with factories
· Flexible working time to communicate effectively with stakeholders worldwide.
· Travel 30%~50% in China and SEA
