Description


A Summer Camp Head Facilitator works on a seasonal part-time basis instructing and leading weekly summer camps.  A Head Counselor supervises counselors and campers. This includes, but is not limited to, overseeing groups, implementing camp schedule, teaching camp curriculum, and giving exceptional customer service to participants and parents.  

Momentum is seeking enthusiastic Head Counselors with a strong work ethic and a love for kids to join our seasonal summer camp staff. We strive to be leaders in the outdoor industry, helping campers conquer new heights, make lasting memories, and build a foundation of active play centered around climbing.

At Momentum, we use our unique gym setting to teach kids about climbing, to spark a passion for physical activity and keep a playful atmosphere.  A Head Counselor helps to create an environment that is welcoming, exciting and filled with learning, and fun!


ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES & EXPECTATIONS

Distribution of focus:
This 20-25hr/week position will focus on leading and instructing weekly summer camps while fostering growth and empowerment amongst camp counselors.

Administration

  • Instruct and lead weekly Summer Camps
  • Regulate and give direction to camp counselors when needed
  • Work with Youth Program Manager and/or Camp Facilitator to identify camp needs

Staff Leadership and Development

  • Lead by example to foster a positive community consistent with the Momentum vision and values  
  • Oversee counselors for Summer Camps
  • Communicate with Youth Program Manager on Summer Camp schedule and feedback
  • Develop camp ownership among camp counselors to continually grow a positive camp culture

Customer Service and Facility Obligations 

  • Provide a positive customer service experience for parents, giving feedback on campers before and after practice 
  • Ability to put immediate needs of campers first at all times
  • Ability to command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, recognize unsafe conditions, and discuss any concerns with fellow staff and campers in a professional manner
  • Enforce Momentum policies in a friendly, patient, and respectful manner

Weekly Recurring Tasks

  • Lead games, activities, and curriculum with campers and staff
  • Identify the skill level and needs of each staff member and camper
  • Interact with parents before and after camp
  • Ensure setup and breakdown of camp is completed daily
  • Lead weekly feedback meeting with camp counselors
  • Assist operations staff with summer camp gear and front desk summer camp needs
  • Keep camp engaging and fun for all campers with active participation

Hours and Availability

  • 20-25 hours per week beginning end of May-end of Summer
  • Monday-Friday (May 30th - August 18th)

COMPENSATION, BENEFITS, AND PERKS

  • $16/hour
  • Free membership to all Momentum climbing facilities - Upon completion of seasonal employment, membership will extend through the New Year
  • Opportunity to develop/improve teaching, coaching, and facilitation skills
Requirements

EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must have at least 2 years climbing experience and show a strong enthusiasm for climbing
  • Experience in customer service preferred
  • Experience with coaching, programming, or facilitating required
  • Ability to work with a large group of kids, either ages 4-6, ages 6-12 or ages 12-16
  • Ability to command respect, enforce safe climbing practices, recognize unsafe conditions, and communicate concerns in a professional manner
  • Current First Aid & CPR certifications preferred, but not required.

ENVIRONMENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Comfortable working in a loud, environment on a regular basis 
  • Comfortable speaking in front of and providing instruction to large groups
  • Be comfortable working at height, moving up and down a climbing wall
  • Continuously stand and walk on unstable and uneven surfaces for long periods of time.
  • Able to repeatedly lift, move, and carry up to 50 lbs of weight on a regular basis.
  • Able to balance, kneel, pull, push, and grasp objects as needed.
  • Have the visual acuity to assess details such as harness buckles, knots, and belay technique.
