The Center for Nutrition & Health Impact (CNHI) is a nonprofit research institute providing expertise in measurement and evaluation to help develop, enhance and expand programs focused on healthy eating and active living, improving food security and healthy food access, and promoting local food systems. With expertise in public health nutrition, we are dedicated to building measurement strategies to assess the impact of innovative health-related programs. We work nationally and internationally, partnering with other nonprofits, academia, government and private foundations to conduct research, evaluation and scientific strategic planning. Job Summary
The Communications and Design Associate position has a graphic design emphasis and supports the implementation of CNHI’s marketing strategy through visual storytelling. This person should be savvy with social listening and implementing social media campaigns, a good interpersonal communicator who enjoys translating data into meaningful stories or visuals across different formats. The Communications and Design Associate will split their time between the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program (GusNIP [https://www.nutritionincentivehub.org/]) and center-wide tasks.
GusNIP Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Design visually engaging marketing, including social media graphics, infographics, reports, presentations, posters, and promotional materials.
- Translate complex content (e.g., research and evaluation findings, project data) into audience-friendly visuals that communicate key messages clearly and effectively.
- Maintain visual brand consistency across all materials and platforms.
- Provide backup support for written content including emails, web pages, social media posts, and other communications.
- Collaborate with program teams to draft, edit, and format copy that aligns with communication goals and brand tone.
- Help implement federal and organizational updates in communications materials, ensuring clarity and adherence to accessibility standards, including 508 compliance.
- Assist in updating website content using a content management system under the direction of the Marketing & Communications Manager.
- Support the creation and distribution of newsletters and email campaigns (e.g., via Mailchimp or similar platforms).
- Ensure digital content is up-to-date, accessible, and visually consistent.
- Contribute to the planning, execution, and evaluation of in-person and virtual events such as conferences, partner convenings, and webinars.
- Provide closed captioning and Vimeo upload for webinars, virtual events, and other Nutrition Incentive Hub recordings.
- Design branded materials and visual aids to support event communications, including slide decks and handouts.
CNHI-wide Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Support CNHI-branded graphic design projects including reports, infographics, presentations, flyers, and related materials.
- Support website content development.
- Research, monitor and report on current trends, topics, issues and public figures, and incorporate into strategy.
- Project management such as setting timelines, meeting deadlines, and acquiring approvals.
- Support a diverse mix of projects and partner organizations by attending meetings, reviewing documents, and creating branded deliverables that reflect key findings and information.
- Social media scheduling for GusNIP and CNHI channels on a monthly and ad hoc basis.
- Own monthly and quarterly data pulls (KPIs) for all social media pages and platforms.
- Attend editorial planning sessions with the CNHI marketing team to inform newsletter, email and social media marketing, bringing a GusNIP-focused project perspective.
- Provide general support for communications initiatives across GusNIP and CNHI, as well as broader organizational campaigns as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in graphic design, marketing, communications, advertising, public relations, journalism or other related field.
- Three years of experience with design and social media tasks.
- Strong storytelling, design, and proofreading skills, including creating content for multiple channels and audiences.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and creating equitable materials.
- Willingness to learn how to adapt scientific content to the lay audience.
- Social media savvy - Familiarity with LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram as it relates to B2B marketing.
- Canva and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop and/or Illustrator) knowledge.
- Familiarity with Sprout, Squarespace, MailChimp, Google Analytics or Salesforce, a plus.
- Data visualization and mapping skills, a plus.
- Creative, detail-oriented and able to see the big picture, deadline-oriented and problem-solver.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Zoom).

Job Type This is a full-time, remote position.
Travel This position may include travel for client visits, conference attendance, other promotional or networking activities, and the annual all-staff retreat.
