L.L.Bean is currently searching for a Youth Program Supervisor to join their Outdoor Discovery Program Team.

Primary Responsibilities: Oversight of the safety, quality, and educational effectiveness of all Kids’ Camp programs in Freeport during the summer. Kids’ Camp operational responsibilities include: hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating instructors and counselors, and overseeing day to day operations of the Youth Programs. Oversee the operational responsibilities of the challenge course including hiring, training supervising and evaluating facilitator staff. Work closely with Project Adventure to schedule yearly inspections, repairs and training for the challenge course. Operate as point person to coordinate Maine-based Custom Programs and assists in program and curriculum development and training across all courses during fall/winter seasons.

PRIMARY RELATIONSHIPS:

  • Serves as the primary link between ODP/LLBEAN management and counselors/instructors.

  • Reports to and works closely with ODP Sr. Manager

  • Works with Manager of ME Programming and Maine Program Supervisor to coordinate Kids’ Camp activities and Custom Programs at LFP and FOGG.

  • Communicates frequently with call center to help manage enrollment for Kids’ Camp

  • Works with entire ODP program team (ME and Regional) in fall and winter to develop new curriculum, resources, and training for the spring.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for hiring and scheduling counselors for Kids’ Camp programs and Challenge Course custom programs.

  • Responsible for daily operations of Kids’ Camp, Teen Adventure Week and challenge course programming.

  • Responsible for supervision and development of Youth Programs and challenge course staff.

  • Responsible for ensuring a positive customer experience and for resolving on-the-ground customer service issues.

  • Communicates and coordinates logistics needs with Logistics Support representative and Maine Programs Supervisor, as well as supervisor.

  • Know and follow all company and departmental safety rules and procedures.

  • Ensures all Kids Camp programs are compliant with state and federal regulatory requirements.

  • Ensures Challenge course is compliant with state, federal and industry standards.

  • Notify supervisor of any issues affecting customer safety.

  • Responsible for ensuring safety policies and procedures and Emergency Response Plan are understood and followed by KC ODP instructors and counselors.

  • Engage in continuous improvement of KC program and instructors by regularly observing and sharing feedback.

  • Assist in developing annual course schedule, budget, and staffing plan.

  • Responsible for meeting annual expense goals and managing expenses to revenue.

  • May be required to step into Instructor role if program needs dictate.

  • Handles emergency phone calls, troubleshoots with instructors, and coordinates customer and staff evacuations with Logistics representatives.

  • Maintains professional presence and relations with outside agencies, partner organizations and local neighbors. Is an L.L.Bean brand ambassador.

  • Ensures completion of all course paperwork in the time allotted.

  • Provides positive leadership and role modeling in the ODP community. Maintains an upbeat, professional presence at sites and models and always enforces ODP policies and procedures.

  • Maintains control of Youth Programs gear and supply inventory and is responsible for ordering and restocking gear and supplies.

  • Maintains control of Challenge Course gear and supply inventory and is responsible for restocking and decommissioning damaged or expired gear.

  • Assists with the creation, planning, and execution of custom youth and challenge course programs; this includes developing program quotes and scheduling staff.

  • In partnership with the ODP Leadership team, collaborates to develops training and curricular materials for ODP instructors (ME and regional).

  • Operates in collaboration with the Maine team to coordinate Custom Programs at both LFP and Fogg

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High-energy, dynamic educator with strong initiative

  • Holds a bachelor’s degree; Education, Outdoor Recreation, and equivalent degrees preferred

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience with outdoor youth education and proven ability to develop & implement course curriculum

  • Proven expertise in staff training and working knowledge of the ‘Train the Trainer’ model

  • Able to accurately assess staff and teach to a variety of learners

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a variety of populations

  • Demonstrated successful working relationships with peers and other management staff

  • Demonstrated successful design and management of an educational or day camp program for kids

  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing

  • Able to manage diverse staff smoothly and diplomatically, creatively and effectively, facilitating conflict if necessary

  • Can balance the management of more than one program at a time

  • Can prioritize many tasks and works calmly under pressure

  • Takes self-initiative and can manage complex projects through to completion

  • Works as a team player with other ODP home office staff, Instructors, and administrative staff

  • Must be CPR and First Aid certified

  • Wilderness First Responder or above, Maine Guide, Challenge Course Practitioner Level II and any other relevant certifications are preferred
