OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE:
Our summer begins with 11 days of staff training starting June 17-27, 2025. Camp sessions run from
June 29, 2025 through August 9, 2025. Opportunities are available for those staff members interested in
working at camp from mid-June through the end of August and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Waterfront Director is
responsible for planning and directing all waterfront activities, and is responsible for ensuring that all
Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp Waterfront Standards are strictly adhered to by all staff, guests and
campers. Ensure the safety of participants and staff, including accident prevention, through safe
maintenance and monitoring of the Lake Wenatchee YMCA Camp waterfront and other places that
participants might come in contact with bodies of water in accordance with established policies and
procedures. The Waterfront Director will also assist the cabin leader in managing the health, welfare,
and development of a group of 6 to 10 campers under the direction of the Camp Director and Assistant
Camp Director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Maintain a safe, clean and fun environment that meets or exceeds Lake Wenatchee YMCA
Waterfront Standards.
2. Regularly inspect, maintain, and clean aquatic areas, program equipment, and safety equipment to
ensure a functional and safe beach and swimming area.
3. Develop and implement a waterfront program including canoeing, kayaking and swimming. Develop
and implement an adequate program to test and classify swimming ability for participants.
4. Train and supervise all staff, lifeguards and lookouts in proper waterfront procedures, including
weekly training sessions for lifeguards.
5. Schedule and regulate waterfront usage ensuring appropriate lifeguard/lookout coverage.
6. Assume responsibility for the health/welfare of all participants entrusted to him/her.
7. Coordinate emergency response to all waterfront rescues in accordance with the camp’s Waterfront
Emergency Action Plan and established YMCA Emergency Procedures.
8. Coordinate with the Trip Director to ensure water safety standards are met on offsite trips.
9. Performs lifeguarding functions as scheduled and within established YMCA Lake Wenatchee Camp
Waterfront Standards. Responds immediately to emergency situations taking action even when
unsure whether a person is in immediate danger.
10. Communicates in a positive and specific nature with participants and other staff, enforcing waterfront
safety standards and resident camp rules.
11. Maintains accurate records as required by the Y, Washington State Health Department, and/or other
local, state, or federal agencies.
12. Knows, reviews, practices, follows, and makes recommendations to improve safety procedures and
practices at the Wenatchee Valley YMCA Lake Wenatchee Resident Camp.
13. Deliver superior customer service to diverse groups of people of all ages from all social and economic
segments of the community.
OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in maintaining daily waterfront journal/log.
2. Prepares for, and actively participates in, weekly required Lake Wenatchee Resident Camp training,
meetings and events. Maintains open communication with other staff.
3. Assists in maintaining first aid and emergency equipment within established standards.
4. Act as a positive role model for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of Caring,
Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in the performance of job duties.
5. Documents all accidents/ incidents per established YMCA policies, procedures and as required by
law.
6. Performs other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for mature staff members to role model healthy living and the YMCA’s four character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. We expect our staff to have a genuine liking for youth and a character that fits our camp values.
Camp is for people who love working with kids and roughing it in the outdoors. The ideal staff member enjoys hiking, camping, and cooking over a fire. They don’t mind the insects or rodents and can survive without a shower everyday. Staff must feel comfortable working as a part of a team, have the desire to pitch in when needed and stay positive throughout these experiences. The staff must be able to uphold the standards and policies and be willing to live in an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free living environment. This will be a challenging and rewarding summer job experience!
