Backroads seeks a Video & Digital Content Producer to create compelling stories that bring the Backroads experience to life, drawing on footage submitted by our guests, trip leaders, on trip photographers, internal videographer and staff. You will  will work closely with senior marketing leadership, social media, performance media and website teams to deliver compelling content that engages and inspires future travelers. This role reports to the Assistant Director of Marketing, who holds responsibility for Brand, Content and Community.

The ideal candidate has extensive experience creating high-impact digital content in a variety of formats, is a natural storyteller, and loves to explore and try new ideas. You are equally excited by the creation of short-form videos for social media as you are by producing high-production-value videos. You have solid technical skills, strong project management capabilities, and curiosity about new tools. You are keenly attuned to audience needs and are able to deliver on Backroads broad communication goals. You thrive on teamwork and collaboration and bring experience working with a diverse range of subjects.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Maintain the Backroads style and brand voice across all materials.
  • Create and oversee the creation of original, high-impact visual storytelling content. Lead the process from ideation through production to completion. Produce videos featuring guests, leaders and staff for high-impact dissemination on social media and the web and shoot photos and videos of campus events and activities as needed.
  • Independently lead high-impact video projects: Plan, research, prepare, produce and archive digital content to support marketing objectives. Manage all ongoing video production, overseeing editorial calendar, ideation and production plans. Requires extensive cross-departmental collaboration.
  • Create and produce content to support video dissemination across the web, social media and video platforms. Oversee the development of supporting materials for videos, including brand development, YouTube descriptions, web stories and related social media content. Create both video and written materials.
  • Manage video asset library to ensure that all media is stored and tagged for easy retrieval.
  • Manage vendors and cross-departmental content creators, ensuring projects are produced successfully on time and on budget.
  • Provide strategic video expertise to the department, and to stakeholders across Backroads. Manage all aspects of video production including equipment, file management and archiving.
  • Contribute to the development of ongoing video strategy and manage the video production budget to align resources with strategy. Monitor video performance across all channels to evaluate effectiveness and evolve our strategic approaches.
  • Serve as internal project leader. May provide guidance and video skills training to other staff.
     

Competencies:

  • Expert-level technical experience using digital media equipment, video creation, editing software and/or motion graphics and effects software.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in production techniques including videography, compression and file delivery and other production formats.
  • Extensive knowledge of all aspects of professional quality productions, including field and studio camera, lighting, sound and editing.
  • Proven savvy and understanding of online video environment and online distribution. Social media content creation experience is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to independently manage a variety of simultaneous projects within tight deadlines, excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated experience leading and training others.
  • Ability to communicate and articulate digital media products and options and adapt to alternatives when appropriate.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, mature judgment and diplomacy are required to interact effectively with a broad audience.
  • Ability to work independently as well as effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience planning, coordinating and executing archival digitization projects.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.
  • Professional videography experience in travel/outdoors/sports a big plus.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years of video production experience in a content-rich environment.
  • Proficiency with video technology systems (Premiere, Portfolio).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat.

Work environment:

  • Full-time position based in the company’s headquarters in Berkeley, CA.
  • Standard office hours with occasional need to meet tight deadlines/production schedules.
  • Collaborative work environment with regular interaction with the Marketing team and other departments.

Salary Ranges:

$70,000.00 - $110,000.00

At Backroads, we uphold a commitment to transparency and fairness within our hiring process, particularly regarding compensation. The salary range posted for each role applies to both employment offers and employees actively working in the role.

New hires are typically offered a starting salary between the minimum and midpoint of the range to ensure there is continued opportunity for salary progression during your employment at Backroads, reflecting our commitment to rewarding ongoing dedication, high performance, and significant contributions to our team. Our office roles are onsite in our Berkeley headquarters, unless specifically noted as 'available for remote'. We do allow one work-from-home day a week, as well as one work-from-anywhere week per year. This pay range is intended for in-person work in our Berkeley, CA headquarters. Pay ranges for remote-eligible roles will be subject to adjustment based on the geolocation of the employee.
