Position:   Summer Camp Counselor

Reports To:   Summer Camp Coordinator

Length of Contract:  2 months

Evaluation:   Ongoing by school policy


Position Summary:   

The Summer Camp Counselor is a position that is responsible to guide students in their quest to discern God’s will for their lives at Delmarva Christian Schools. This candidate will reach students by helping develop their God-given intellectual, physical, and spiritual talents. The Summer Camp Counselor will believe that every student has been created by God uniquely and challenge them to reach their fullest potential.


Qualifications:

  • Vibrant, growing personal relationship with Jesus Christ
  • Must be CPR/ First Aid certified
  • Strong communication skills both written and verbally
  • Must meet physical requirements of the position including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds

Responsibilities:

  • Work with children through games and activities as directed by the Summer Camp coordinator, and conduct themselves in a manner conducive to effective relationships, reflecting Christ’s love.  
  • Employ the use of a variety of games that students can all play together or engage the students in activities.  
  • Monitor free play by being able to walk around the playground and cafeteria as monitoring is taking place. This can involve being on your feet for a period of two hours. 
  • Maintain the area used by Summer Camp by making sure the area is cleaned up, trash is out, and building is secure.  
  • Interact with parents in a pleasant and confident manner
  • Take all reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
  • Uphold and enforce School and Board policies
  • Attend and participate in all Summer Camp staff meetings and Professional development.
  • Timely complete all administrative tasks given them by the Summer Camp Coordinator which include maintaining the cart and closet for games and playground and clean up duties.
  • Refer all discipline issues to the Summer Camp Coordinator.
  • Other duties, as assigned

  • Attend in-service and staff meetings.
  • Attend professional development classes to keep the program engaging and aligned with best practice.
