Paul Smith�s College is a private, four-year institution with approximately 750 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Known as the �College of the Adirondacks,� we are the only baccalaureate-granting institution located within the six-million-acre, world-famous, �forever-wild� Adirondacks in New York�s North Country.

Department Description:

The Center for Academic and Career Success (CACS) assists Paul Smith�s College students in achieving their academic goals by providing a variety of effective academic support options. Paul Smith�s first established a peer tutoring program in 1985. Since then, CACS has grown to become a comprehensive academic support program. Each year, many Paul Smith�s students take advantage of the broad range of services offered by CACS in order to reach their goals for academic success. Caring and dedicated CACS staff work closely with the faculty to provide the kind of support that will improve learning and classroom performance.

Position Description:

The Student Success Coach works one-on-one to provide individualized academic support and advising to students.

Qualifications and Preferences:

Requirements:

  • Bachelor�s degree in education or a relevant field
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills.
  • Commitment to helping at risk and underprepared students succeed within the college setting.
  • Strong computer skills and ability to use varied online databases and current Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Publisher, Access, OneNote).
  • Ability to work with detail and accuracy to maintain student meeting records and reports.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to promote the College�s academic and career support services to the campus community and designated student populations.
  • Highly developed customer service skills.
  • Desire to share the varied workload of a small college in a team atmosphere.
  • Ability to work some weekends or evenings as needed.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.

Preferences:

  • Master�s degree in education or related fields (counseling, college student personnel administration, higher education, social work, etc.).
  • Previous experience in a higher education setting working with at risk or underprepared students in either student affairs, academic success, or career support.
  • Computer and software expertise, including expertise in database creation and manipulation; advanced applications and reporting features for Microsoft Office; and knowledge of on-line web-based applications such as Google Docs and web-design.

This Student Success Coach position is key to maintaining the legacy of Paul Smith�s College�s historic hospitality, while looking toward the future by promoting sustainability, local business, and community.
