Your Job:


As a Staff Tax Accountant at Brooks Running Company, you will be a member of our high-performing Finance Team. Utilizing your knowledge of tax and accounting experience, you will contribute to the success and growth of the company through ensuring Brooks maintains and delivers accurate tax reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Maintain tax accounting records:
  • Prepare annual tax return workpapers for our parent company’s tax team
  • Review state corporate income tax returns; highlighting any discrepancies to the Brooks Tax Manager
  • Manage Brooks’ state tax status via the state tax websites
  • Prepare quarterly and annual income tax provisions
  • Calculate, accrue and remit OH CAT quarterly
  •  Reconcile, verify sales/use tax returns and upload to sales tax software 
  • Maintain accurate jurisdictional nexus and filing status within our sales tax system working with our IT team, where necessary, for any required updates
  • Function as accounting team liaison:
  • Request federal corporate income tax payments; monthly state sales tax payments; Canada province tax payments and ad hoc audit payments
  • Facilitate state corporate income tax web payments
  • Coordinate information gathering based on tax audit requests
  • Coordinate information gathering for transfer pricing study requests  
  • Calculate and prepare periodic transfer pricing billings across legal entities
  • Prepare monthly tax journal entries and prepare quarterly general ledger account reconciliations for all tax accounts:
  • Research and resolve reconciling items
  • Report significant sales tax discrepancies to Tax Manager and provide analysis of root cause and recommendation of solution
  • Facilitate the accurate and timely filing of all tax forms and other business-related filings such as:
  • OBE-11, BE-125, ACE, BRD-Census, HSR Reporting, Report of Organization
  • R&D credit study, uniform capitalization (UNICAP) and Voluntary Disclosure Applications
  • Implement, maintain, and adhere to internal controls and accounting procedures ensuring compliance with GAAP and Tax
  • Actively identify opportunities for process improvements based on the growing volume and complexity of the underlying data and provide recommendations to improve accuracy and efficiency
  • Participate in ad hoc projects and assignments as needed


Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business or equivalent combination of education and experience required
  • 3+ years of experience in the tax field
  • Demonstrated knowledge of income tax
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to maintain intelligible records, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills that inspire and build trust resulting in effective working relationships across functions and with key stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of ERP systems (experience with M3 preferred)
  • Experience with Vertex software, a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (specifically pivot tables, VLOOKUP’s, data connections and nested sum if formulas)
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Demonstration of innovation and initiative, willing to explore new processes while maintaining focus on other tasks

Compensation: The pay range for this position, based out of the Brooks Seattle HQ, is $68,635 - $103,004 per year. Base pay offered will vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
