Position Overview
The Staff Accountant I will support the Senior Staff Accountant team members in functions as maintaining financial records and ensuring financial transactions are properly recorded. This person will ensure the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Further, they will assist in the analysis of current costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations incurred to predict future revenues and expenses in the travel industry environment.
What You’ll Be Doing…
- Assists in general accounting function as assigned by the Senior Staff Accountant team members including, but not limited to, reporting through the preparation of balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports
- Assist in reviews, investigations and audits of assigned programs, processes, or accounting functions (such as A/P, A/R, Commissions, etc.)
- Assists in the analysis and review of balance sheet accounts
- Uses controls that will prevent or reduce risk of potential misstatements or misappropriations
- Monitors compliance with Federal Requirements, internal controls, and company and departmental procedures
- Reconciles general ledger accounts as assigned by Senior Staff Accountant team members
- Prepares journal entries for the general ledger
- Maintain files and documentation thoroughly and accurately, in accordance with company policy and accepted accounting practices
- Assists in month-end close process and the preparation of monthly reporting packages, preparation of the management financial briefings and monthly financial reviews for the Executive Leadership Team
- Proactively identify opportunities to improve business results and/or to alert business units of trends, anomalies or decisions that need attention
- Assist with other projects and tasks as needed in all areas of the department
Sounds Like A Good Fit? What It Takes To Be Successful…
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required
- 2+ years’ experience in accounting preferred
- Experience in the travel industry preferred
- Experience with QuickBooks or TravCom software preferred
- Must be highly organized, results oriented with the ability to be flexible, and work well in a fast-paced changing environment
- Ability to handle situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment
- Ability to work under deadlines and quickly resolve accounting challenges that impacts many of the functional areas of the company
- Advanced excel, excellent communication and strong interpersonal skills required
- Possess a strong attention to detail, operate effortlessly in a highly dynamic environment
- Intermediate accounting principles knowledge skills required
- Strong problem-solving skills required
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to maintain privacy and confidentiality required
