Position Title:     Ski Patroller Level 1, 2, 3 and 4    

Department:        Ski Patrol

Reports To:          Director of Ski Patrol

Status:          Full-time or Part-time Seasonal, Hourly (Non-Exempt)

Working Hours:    Varied hours/shifts, fluctuates with time of season, weekends and holidays typical

Wage Range:     $21.00 - $22.75 plus incentives

Position Summary:  Patrols ski trails and slope areas to provide assistance and protection to skiers and report condition of trails, ski lifts, and snow cover on slopes.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: 

Wisp Resort is a four-season ski, golf and recreational destination resort.  Because of the nature of the resort business, employees may be asked to perform other duties outside of the job description.  Also, hours of operation are 24/7 including weekends and holidays.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:  All Levels 1, 2, 3 and 4        

    Rescue injured skiers and render first aid or transfer them to waiting ambulance, using toboggan. 

    Notifies medical personnel in case of serious injury where moving skier might prove dangerous.

    Ensures that no skiers remain on slopes or trails at end of day or during inclement weather.

    Reports safety hazards and evidence of damage or wear to lifts as soon as possible to Maintenance if see or hear anything while riding lifts.

    May pack snow on slopes.

    May give ski instruction.

    May participate in skiing demonstrations for entertainment of resort guests.

    Follows company policies and procedures, and exhibits thorough First Aid knowledge, training and certification.

    Works well with a team, as well as independently. 


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:  Level 1 – NE03            

    Little direct experience, exhibits some core competencies.

    Will have all current OEC certifications.

    Will have a current State of Maryland Emergency Medical Responder certification.

    Will be trained on snowmobile operation.

    1-2 years’ experience as a patroller.

    Will learn from the veteran patrollers state and local protocols.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:  Level 2 – NE04            

    All duties of a Level 1 Ski Patroller.

    1-2 years’ experience, exhibits some core competencies.

    Completes snow mobile training, and passes written test.

    Shadows ski patrol veterans, learning the lay of the mountain and where everything is located, i.e. first aid stations, dog houses, AEDs, etc.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:  Level 3 – NE05             

    All duties of a Level 1 and Level 2 Ski Patroller.

    2-4 years’ experience, senior patrol, possesses required knowledge/skills.

    Able to open the mountain, using signs, ropes and banners to mark trials as open, closed, or caution.

    Ensures the snow grooming condition is good, and that nothing needs to be re-groomed.

    Marks all hazard areas on the mountain.


Specific Duties & Responsibilities:  Level 4 – NE06            

    All duties of a Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 Ski Patroller.

    4-6 years’ experience, fully implements required knowledge/skills.

    Supervises volunteer Ski Patrol, and is on hand when called by a volunteer to diffuse any situation.  Conducts ‘hands-on’ complete accident investigation, and identifies who, what, when, where.  Takes photos and

     measurements at the scene of the accident.


Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience:

    High School diploma or equivalent

    Previous ski patrol experience desirable


Language Skills:

    Basic English

    Strong communication and interpersonal skills


Mathematical Skills:

    Basic math


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

    Level 1 – OEC (Outdoor Emergency Care) Certificate

    Level 2 – OEC Certificate and Ski & Toboggan Certificate

    Level 3 & 4 – OEC, Instructor Trainer Ski & Toboggan Certificate, OEC Instructor trains candidates during OEC class held August – December

    All Levels – an EMT or higher in the medical field may challenge the OEC course.  If the challenge fails, the entire course will have to be taken.  Must be a strong intermediate skier. 

    Certified Patrol – highest level of National Ski Patrol
