Senior Communications and Recruitment Manager

Reports To: Development Director and Operations Director
Location: Flexible, with travel

Position Description

The Communications and Recruitment Manager (CRM) strategically engages people inside and outside the organization to boost support for DREAM’s mission. The CRM shapes and amplifies the voices that make up DREAM, in service to closing the opportunity gap and motivating and increasing engagement.

The CRM leads key efforts across communications, branding, and recruitment to strengthen DREAM’s impact and expand its reach. The role encompasses content creation, brand management, recruitment strategy, media relations, communications planning, and leadership voice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create content: Oversee the production of written and visual materials to engage diverse audiences through websites, social media, newsletters, press releases, and reports.
  • Manage DREAM’s brand: Ensure consistent branding and messaging across communication channels and materials, providing creative direction and supporting initiatives that align with accessibility standards and best practices.
  • Support executive communications: Work with the Executive Director to craft strategic messaging that aligns staff, enhances DREAM's public profile, and attracts new supporters.
  • Drive recruitment strategy: Develop and manage systems to attract mentors, volunteers, and employees, with a focus on expanding access to underrepresented groups.
    • Build and oversee recruitment platforms and processes, including co-creating position descriptions and engaging in targeted outreach.
    • Organize events to garner interest, such as virtual or in-person info sessions, to connect with potential volunteers and staff.
    • Co-develop and implement recruitment cycles for mentors and AmeriCorps members.
    • Collaborate with chapters to create strategic plans for recruitment and ongoing support, including developing training and SOPs.
  • Analyze data and adapt: Monitor communication and recruitment performance using data and analytics to inform strategies and improve outcomes.

This role is also responsive to the communications needs of the organization, meaning that it will support a variety of projects not included in this overview.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications: 

  • At least three years of communications, development, recruiting, marketing, and/or talent acquisition experience
  • Experience engaging with or recruiting undergraduate college and high school student volunteers.
  • Competence in various talent acquisition channels, including recruitment platforms, professional networks, online communities, and social media
  • Strong communication and listening skills
  • Demonstrated ability to leverage networks and interpersonal skills to influence outcomes.
  • Experience with project management and leadership in a communications or recruitment-related role. 
  • Excitement and passion around working in support of youth access to mentoring and developmental relationships. 
  • Commitment to the mission of DREAM.
  • Desire to enhance existing skills and develop new skills necessary for the role.
  • Elevated awareness of issues of social equity and social justice with a commitment to continued learning as it relates to serving and elevating diverse communities in a manner that is respectful and aware. 
  • Ability and willingness to regularly travel to our DREAM locations in support of volunteer acquisition and efforts to support the communications team. 
  • Current driver’s license, proof of insurance, and clean driving record.


Type of work/expected commitment: 

This is a full time, salaried, overtime exempt position. The position will average 35-45 hours per week with relatively flexible weekday hours and occasional weekend events over the course of the year. Participation and leadership at regular multi-day employee retreats or multi-day out of area travel (to fulfill role responsibilities) are required. 


Supervisory Responsibilities: You will supervise a team of 3-7 AmeriCorps Members (the Communications Team) across the major regions in the northeast. You will also be managing large-scale efforts of recruitment and communications which does not require direct supervision, but positions you in a position of leadership and support of regional managers, directors, and program-facing AmeriCorps members. 


Compensation:

Total compensation value: upwards of $60,000 which includes: 

  • Salary range is commensurate with experience: $49,200.00 to $53,620.00 (with 20% COLA for those living in Boston)
  • Group Medical Insurance for the employee paid at 100% of cost the plan (no probationary period - plan is based on our current group offering in Vermont - a “bronze” plan level) 
  • five weeks (25 work days) paid time off (PTO) inclusive of vacation, sick and personal days;

Work environment:  This position operates in multiple spaces. The spaces included will often be an indoor environment, in both shared and remote workspaces. You will often travel to other regions, be present on-site with active children and volunteers, within the housing communities we serve, or on campus at the colleges we are partnered with. This role routinely uses computers, phones, and a variety of other software (design, databases, organization) for communications, systems, and program accountability.


Physical demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee/member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job: 

  • This position requires comfort working in outdoor environments, regardless of the weather.  This position is very active and frequently requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to communicate with individuals who talk and hear.  
  • The employee/member may occasionally lift and/or move items over 50 pounds.  
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee/member is regularly required to observe and comprehend using vision abilities that include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Travel:  You will be expected to travel regularly to other DREAM regions in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, and to be able to work from a variety of spaces and situations. This travel is intended to support, understand, and meaningfully connect with our regional and site-based teams regarding volunteer recruitment. Travel associated with this role has an emphasis on strategic travel engagements over high volume travel (e.g., purposeful in-person time and team gatherings, complemented with regular virtual connection).
