Job Responsibilities

A granitic gneiss outcropping atop the dramatic Blue Ridge Escarpment gives Caesars Head State Park its name. Every fall, from the easily-accessible overlook atop the rocky peak of the Blue Ridge Escarpment, sight-seers are treated to the Hawk Watch program and a spectacular view that extends into North Carolina and Georgia.

Caesars Head connects to Jones Gap State Park in what is known as the Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area, a 17,000-acre area of pristine southern mountain forest. Hikers can take a number of loops and traverse hiking trails that connect the parks, and trailside camping is available for those who choose the longer routes.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Responsible for overall operation and maintenance of a State Park Wilderness Area. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Β Provide regional level support to Regional Chief as needed.

1) Effectively hires, trains, and supervises full-time staff and directs the activities of seasonal employees.
2) Directs and coordinates all trail work and maintenance.
3) Assures that all facilities, equipment, and property are maintained to the standards set forth by the Department. Works to provide a safe environment for park visitors and employees.
4) Responsible for change funds, revenues collected receipts, and their accountability and disposition.
5) Ensures that park operations are operated in the most cost efficient manner possible, ensuring that all activities i.e. waterfront operation, retail sales, etc. are conducted in accordance with established procedures and policies.
6) Maintains and is accountable for inventory of all assets to include but not limited to equipment, supplies, and items for resale.
7) Practice and promote teamwork within the State Park Service, throughout the agency and with external agency stakeholders. Represents office as an active member on agency teams assigned throughout the year.
8) Employee will be required to live in designated park housing to provide for security, safety and emergency response.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Park Administration or related field with three (3) years' experience in park administration and operation or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

1) Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, walking and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Ability to work flexible schedule, including, nights, weekends, and holidays. Position requires residency in agency provided housing.
2) Ability to communicate with others in a tactful and cordial manner. Ability to direct subordinates. Working knowledge of various types of office equipment.
3) Must possess a valid SC drivers license.

Additional Comments

Actual Job Location: Mountain Bridge Wilderness Area.

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
