Beyond Maine’s bustling seaports and crowded winter resort towns lies an untarnished wilderness full of mountain landscapes that transform into a winter wonderland. Discover dramatic snow-capped mountains, frozen rivers, and the majestic North Maine Woods along miles of interconnected groomed cross-country ski trails. Enjoy on average more than 80-inches of snow each winter and living and working in a location only accessible by skis or snowmobiles. The Operations & Facilities Assistant is multi-season opportunity, with full-time hours.  

Daily responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Plowing/Shoveling 
  • Grooming 
  • Emergency ski trail work 
  • Minor power system maintenance 
  • Snowmobile transporting 
  • Distributing and stacking firewood 
  • Operating our heating systems
  • Thawing out frozen water lines, gas lines, or sewage lines
  • Chainsawing  
  • Other duties as assigned  

Qualifications and experience:

  • Enthusiasm for living in and sharing a wilderness environment is a must! 
  • Hardworking
  • An outgoing, friendly attitude
  • Carpentry and maintenance experience or equivalent relevant education
  • Proven experience or willingness to learn how to operate equipment successfully and safely, including but not limited to snowmobiles, RTVs, wheeled loaders, tractors, track dumps, plow trucks, chainsaws, power hand tools, etc.   
  • Physical ability to travel safely in the backcountry to all AMC worksites in all weather conditions carrying up to 40 pounds of gear
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain appropriate license(s) in Maine
  • Wilderness First Aid Certification required (AMC can provide/help schedule at start of employment)
  • Ability to use a computer to send and receive emails and use Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) for communicating and planning
