Manufacturing Engineer

SUMMARY:


In this position, you will work in our Manufacturing Engineering team collaborating with design engineers, product managers, our test labs, and suppliers. You will take responsibility for projects and assist senior level engineers to gain experience in many aspects of our engineering development process.

6. International travel to our suppliers in Asia and design centers in the USA and Europe.


Job Responsibilities


1) Project/ Component Development
1. Manage manufacturing development of assigned projects from sourcing to final production approval.
a) Track/manage the development parts using corresponding development process documents. Update the project status Product Life Management tools and completing required documents.
b) Track/manage the sample schedule for all project parts and assemblies. Correspond with suppliers to arrange delivery to appropriate manufacturing and test location. Work with design engineers to send results to the supplier and perform any required follow up.
c) Work with SBC purchasing providing engineering support to ensure that supplier is on schedule for samples, pilot run, production and material preparation to support all stages of development.
2. Review all drawings with design engineers and suppliers to ensure that critical manufacturing and functional dimensions are present. Make modifications to drawings and/or models when necessary.
3. Work with part suppliers, frame manufacturers and assemblers to ensure each part is inspected to and meets our drawings; completing approvals per planned production schedules.
4. Work with electronics parts/ components/ motor of suppliers and assemblers to ensure the parts meet engineering specifications / functional requirements / designing intention.
5. Review fixture designs with suppliers before opening new tooling. Ensure all assembly and inspection fixtures for production are reviewed and approved before start of pilot with goal of production capable fixtures being ready at R1 sample making time.
6. Document meeting notes and forward to Engineering, Project and Product Management and Purchasing as required so that they are aware of all product development stages. Copies of relevant information should also be sent to the supplier confirming all agreements made during meetings.
7. Monitor first prototype assembly at manufacturer or assembler to ensure that all parts assemble properly and have sufficient clearance for correct operation and document all production steps and processes.
8. As required, complete inspection documents for all manufacture tooling and parts, ensuring fixtures meet/exceed standards and final manufactured assembly meets geometry and alignment tolerances. Final approval of tooling and gauges should include completed Tooling and Gauge Inspection report to SBC projects in Agile.
9. Complete all documentation and output of the Production Process Map and new product introduction (NPI); And assist other departments/people to output the necessary documents and requirements; push the product to mass production on time and in expectation.
10. Ensure the final assembled product is within tolerance of the 2D drawings. Complete all document updates for production before pilot.


2) Manufacturing Development and Process Improvement
1. Work with suppliers to review manufacturing processes for assigned projects to ensure the highest sample and production quality and consistency are achieved.
2. Establish best practices in manufacturing at chosen suppliers to increase throughput and quality of product.
3. Complete control plans for all parts to ensure manufacturing requirements are documented and part meets drawings.
4. As required design fixtures and gauges using Creo 3D and 2D to support projects.
5. Research advanced technology and process to support new project requirements. As needed prepare estimated return on investment analysis to support business decisions for capital expenditures by SBC or suppliers. Propose new technology, ROI analysis, testing procedures and specification for continuous improvements at suppliers.
6. Be responsible for quality and technical issues throughout development, providing root cause analysis with proposals for solutions and improvement.
7. Be an agent of change for continuous improvement both internally at SBC and externally at supplier side. Work with SBC managers to identify key supplier improvements to be acted on.
8. Survey and audit all supplier quality controls ensuring they are following project requirements and supplier standards.


3) Engineering Team Continuous Improvement
1. Work with engineering team to improve & document new processes and make our engineering team stronger.
2. Work on finding root causes of field return problems &/or manufacturing issues and suggest product improvements.
3. Check /solve & troubleshoot fit ; strength and function of prototype products.


Basic Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.
2. Experience with Pro Engineer (Creo) skill
3. Proven project management skills
4. Experience in field of electronics; motor working background is preferred.
5. Good verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese are very important for working in our fast-paced environment.
