Mountain Recreation is seeking hardworking and dependable individuals to help maintain ballfields, parks, and bathrooms at the Eagle Sports Complex and Freedom Park fields in Edwards. This position will assist with various projects and help prepare fields for rentals and tournaments.

POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Maintenance Technician

Location: District-wide • Eagle Sports Complex (Eagle, CO), Freedom Park (Edwards, CO)

Schedule: Full-Time; Seasonal • March – August 


Work Environment: Works indoors and outdoors; work hours will vary, including evening hours, and weekends. Outdoor work may involve extreme weather conditions. The position requires continuous mental and visual attention, along with physical exertion such as frequent walking, bending, and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted. Duties may also involve pushing, pulling, and kneeling to transport equipment and supplies. The nature of the role is physically demanding and may be stressful, requiring constant safety awareness.


Supervision Required: Directly supervised by the Maintenance Supervisor

Salary: $17.61-$22.01/hour; DOE

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

General Statement of Duties: Responsible for performing routine operational tasks to ensure the upkeep and functionality of parks and facilities. 


Examples of Duties:

  • Maintains and cleans facilities, including complex bathrooms, sheds, bleachers, concession stands, and dugouts.
  • Operates and maintains grounds care equipment such as mowers, tractors, weed eaters, sprayers, and some heavy equipment.
  • Prepares and maintains the district’s sports fields for practice and gameplay, including dragging, harrowing, watering, and marking fields. Identifies and eliminates safety hazards.
  • Assists with new construction and remodeling in areas such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, concrete work, excavation, wildlife habitat management, and upland natural area maintenance.
  • Removes trash and recycling, including transporting large items to the dump.
  • Assists with irrigation responsibilities, including installing, maintaining, and cleaning heads, blowing lines, troubleshooting problems, aeration, and winterizing systems.
  • Assists with setup, operation, and teardown of special events.
  • Communicates openly and constructively with supervisors and district employees to support efficient decision-making and positive morale.
  • Maintains equipment in a clean and safe condition and always operates equipment safely.
  • Performs general maintenance, including changing light bulbs and maintaining scoreboards.
  • Installs field advertisement signs and rink dasher boards.
  • Maintains fencing and signage at fields.
  • Reports needed repairs to appropriate personnel.
  • Notifies the supervisor of any potential hazards to the public or staff.
  • Assists with inventory management and ensures tools are maintained in working order.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  

COMPENTENCIES AND QUALIFICATION

Considerable knowledge of: 

  • Principles, practices, and methods used in park maintenance, repair, and construction.
  • Proper maintenance and safe operation of powered equipment and hand tools.

 Skills and abilities: 

  • Safely operate powered equipment and hand tools.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Work independently while exercising initiative and good judgment.
  • Perform physical labor, lift heavy objects, and navigate rough terrain on job sites.
  • Establish and maintain effective, cooperative, and respectful working relationships with all contacts.

Tools and Equipment Used: includes but is not limited to lawn mowers, weed eaters, Gator 2X4, paint sprayers. Must use appropriate personal safety equipment.


Requirements:

Education and experience

  • Must be at least 16 years of age; AND
  • High school diploma, GED, or current enrollment in high school; AND
  • Previous volunteer or work experience in park maintenance, horticulture, landscaping, irrigation technology, or construction; OR
  • Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the required work.
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
