Yellowstone Forever (YF) is the official nonprofit partner of Yellowstone National Park. Our mission is to protect, preserve, and enhance Yellowstone National Park through education and philanthropy. YF connects people to Yellowstone through outstanding visitor experiences and educational programs and translates those experiences into lifelong support of the park and philanthropic investment in its future. Our educational programming and products help people enhance their understanding and appreciation of the wildlife, natural wonders, and cultural history of the park. YF’s operations include Park Stores in and around Yellowstone; the Yellowstone Forever Institute, which offers in-depth educational programing for people of all ages; and a supporter program which raises funds for priority park projects.
The Maintenance and Construction Manager plays a critical role in YF’s operations by working as an integral part of our Facilities team leading operational, preventative, and cyclic maintenance activities and construction projects. The work to maintain and improve YF’s properties and facility systems ensures the safety and comfort of people using the facilities, including offices, housing, retail areas, campus infrastructure, and all other YF owned/operated infrastructure. This position is primarily responsible for the care, maintenance, and improvement of building components and systems, as well as major projects requiring skilled carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical and HVAC work. Leading and accomplishing the work will involve working independently, leading other facilities staff and volunteers, and/or obtaining and overseeing the services of contractors and subcontractors. This position reports to the Facilities and Sustainability Director and in their absence serves as the Acting Director for the Facilities Department. Success in this position requires a broad range of trades skills, the ability to formulate both short- and long-term facility maintenance plans, the ability to adapt to and manage emergent and/or emergency facility maintenance needs and projects, rigorous attention to detail, excellent organizational skills, the ability to write accurate scopes of work for contracts, project management, and the ability to collaborate within the Facilities Department and across the organization.
Primary Responsibilities:

Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for all equipment, systems, and facilities.

Analyze equipment failures, determine cause(s), and make necessary adjustments or repairs.

Develop predictive and preventive maintenance procedures in conjunction with maintenance staff.

Conduct regular inspections of YF facilities and systems to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns.

Coordinate and manage repair and maintenance projects, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and general building repairs.

Oversee the efficient operation of utilities, including water, electricity, and HVAC systems.

Lead maintenance team members, including other staff and contractors, for larger projects ensuring all members are well-trained and equipped for assigned tasks.

Review, evaluate, accept, and coordinate outside contractor bids and work performance.

Maintain an inventory of supplies and equipment necessary for maintenance tasks.

Ensure compliance with safety and health regulations and maintain a safe working environment.

Maintain and complete all required documentation following OSHA and EPA regulatory requirements.

Ensure good maintenance housekeeping procedures are followed in all work.

Develop risk management strategies and procedures to mitigate or eliminate risks in facility operations.

Create, implement, and train others on maintenance procedures.

Manage and track maintenance budgets and expenses.

Prepare maintenance and repair cost estimates and select the most cost effective and timely options to maintain or improve facilities.

Collaborate with other departments to meet their maintenance and renovation needs.

Respond promptly to staff requests and resolve maintenance issues.

Work with the Facilities and Sustainability Director to develop scopes of work and specifications for sourcing and evaluating contractors and suppliers.

Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, contractors, partners, and service providers.

Assist in and/or lead the planning and execution of facility new construction, renovation and refurbishment projects.

Train staff on safety procedures and equipment operation.

Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.

Act as a liaison to other departments to plan for facility repair and maintenance needs and address work orders.

Mitigate risk across the organization by documenting maintenance operating procedures and response plans.

Lead other facilities team members in executing larger maintenance and construction projects.

Act as an integral component of the operation’s management team as a forward thinking, proactive problem solver and planner.

Represent Yellowstone Forever and its mission accurately and positively.

Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment with YF employees, volunteers, and partners.
Basic Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- A minimum of 10 years’ experience performing and leading multi-disciplinary work in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry trades. Or 2 years of trade school and 8 years of applied experience.
- Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to think strategically and formulate effective systems and action plans.
- Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to collaborate with a diverse and skilled team.
- Good verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Ability to read, understand, and work with architectural and engineering drawings.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, which may include occasional nights and weekends when needed.
- Self-motivated with a sound approach to problem solving and timely task completion.
- Knowledge of safety requirements and best practices.
- Experience and competence with computer systems and programs, particularly MS Office.
- Ability to lift equipment/boxes weighing up to 40 pounds (with support of lift equipment).
- Ability to represent YF in a courteous and professional manner.
- This position involves driving YF vehicles and passenger buses, therefore applicants must be 21
years of age, or older, hold and maintain a valid US driver’s license, and maintain a favorable driving record for insurance purposes.
- Satisfactory background checks are conditions of employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Relevant certifications or licenses in maintenance or facility management.
- Experience with water and wastewater testing and treatment systems.
- Experience with fleet management and maintenance.
- Commitment to the sustainability initiative of YF and YNP.
- 15 years’ experience in construction, maintenance, alternative energy or other relevant infrastructure project management and/or execution.
- Experience finding and working with grant/donor funding to further improvements at YF owned/operated facilities.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, hourly/non-exempt position, which will be based in Gardiner. Travel between the offices and throughout the park may be required. Salary is based upon experience.
Pay range $76,523 to $84,538
