Are you passionate about hosting and creating memorable experiences? Join the Australian Walking Company and become part of an eco-tourism family that’s been hitting the trails for more than three decades.

The Tasmanian Walking Company (TWC) have been walking for over 30 years, offering amazing wilderness experiences to our guests in some of Tasmania's most special and remote wilderness locations. We work to deliver a truly immersive experience as we create connections between people and place in remote cultural landscapes through our boutique multi-day walking experiences.

Whilst our roots lie in Tassie, we operate on mainland Australia as The Australian Walking Company (AWC) and are excited to be experiencing a growth phase in the business as we introduce a number of new walks.

We pride ourselves on having a culture that promotes sustainability, equal opportunities, accountability and continuous improvement, respect, integrity, and genuine fun (it’s even one of our values!) so that we can be leaders in our industry and are welcoming to individuals from all walks of life.

About the role:

The job is uniquely located on Kangaroo Island, offering a rare blend of professional opportunity and natural beauty.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lodge Host (casual position) at our Kangaroo Island Walk (KI) on Kangaroo Island, South Australia. We are looking for an organised Lodge Host who is passionate about preparing and cooking delicious local food to join the team. Hosting and cooking for up to 12 guests at a time, this varied role promises to never have 2 days the same. Alongside cooking and hosting guests, our hosts assist with operations and maintenance of the Cottages while on shift.

The KI Lodge Host plays a pivotal role in supporting the ultimate guest experience by maintaining and managing excellent food and guest service standards, effective systems, and procedures.

You will be supported by the Regional Experience Manager and working with Guides and a Team Leader. You must be comfortable to work autonomously in a remote wilderness location. Idyllic accommodation is provided whilst on shift.

Given the remote location, the role will require a problem-solving attitude as well as a willingness to learn new skills.

What you will bring:

TWC/AWC Lodge Hosts provide an outstanding experience that guests will remember for a lifetime – the walks we offer are an opportunity for guests to step out of everyday life and into wilderness areas that are one of a kind. As a TWC/AWC Lodge Host, it is your job to ensure the guests feel safe, comfortable and well cared for throughout their stay, attending to their needs with exceptional hospitality, from cooking and catering to room turnovers, cleaning and lodge maintenance, all while preserving the natural beauty of the lodge surroundings.

The ideal candidates for this role will have:

  • 2+ years’ experience working in a similar role.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to our guests.
  • Ability to maintain the highest standard of hospitality, cleanliness, service, hygiene, and safety.
  • Ability to prepare meals, and support other employees involved in meal preparation if required, ensuring strict adherence to Food Safety Standards, and procedures are followed.
  • Ability to build a strong rapport with the community around the lodge, local residents, team members and guests.

For this role you are expected to hold & renew:

  • Remote First Aid (HLTAID013)
  • Provide CPR (HLTAID009)
  • Provide Responsible Service of Alcohol (SITHFAB021)
