About the Role:
As our Junior Payroll Administrator, you’ll provide support across all areas of our People Ops Team, especially in Payroll. The Junior Payroll Administrator is really like the “Swiss Army Knife” of our team – you end up knowing a bit about all areas of the department by nature of helping where help is needed.
Specific tasks include:
Assist the Payroll Lead with payroll preparation, audits, and processing using Workday.
Serve as the backup for the Payroll Lead, ensuring seamless payroll submission in their absence.
Conduct payroll audits (pre & post) to verify accuracy in timesheets, benefit deductions, tax withholdings, and other payroll-related data.
Support resolution of payroll discrepancies.
Respond to employee inquiries related to payroll, tax forms, direct deposit, and other related matters in a timely and professional manner.
Collaborate with other departments to provide employees with payroll-related data.
Maintain accurate payroll records, reports, and documentation.
Assist in the preparation of department related reports for the business.
Support the payroll lead in updating policies, procedures, and workflows to improve payroll efficiency.
Assist with year-end reporting, including year-end tax form preparation and distribution.
What You’ll Need to Be Successful:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
1 to 2 years of experience in payroll processing or a similar role.
Experience with Workday or a similar payroll/HRIS system is highly preferred.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, strong Excel skills strongly preferred.
Exceptional organizational and analytical skills and strong detail orientation.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
General HR and benefits knowledge is a plus.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
A keen eye for improving processes.
Unwavering good discretion and ability to always maintain confidentiality.

Our office roles are onsite in our Berkeley headquarters, unless specifically noted as 'available for remote'. We do allow one work-from-home day a week, as well as one work-from-anywhere week per year. This pay range is intended for in-person work in our Berkeley, CA headquarters. Pay ranges for remote-eligible roles will be subject to adjustment based on the geolocation of the employee.
