Role Description:


Arcadis is seeking an Intermediate Environmental Scientist to join our team in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Reporting to the Atlantic Regional Manager, the successful candidate will work in a collaborative environment with ample opportunities for career progression. Role Accountabilities:


The Intermediate Environmental Scientist will be integral to a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, and technologists, providing technical expertise across sectors like oil and gas, mining, power, and infrastructure. Experience with Contaminated Sites, Site Remediation, and Monitoring is a requirement, and ability to register as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Nova Scotia is preferred.


You will manage and direct technical tasks and field programs, including contaminated site investigations, feasibility studies, remediation design, and hydrogeological studies. Your responsibilities will span from project management to technical advice, report preparation, and senior review. Ensuring compliance with corporate policies, health and safety programs, and performance management systems are all important parts of the role.


Additional responsibilities will include:



  • Preparing and reviewing reports, work plans, specifications, and proposals; managing technical budgets; and mentoring intermediate and junior staff for regulatory compliance and technical accuracy

  • Supporting practice area planning and goal setting, collaborating with senior staff across Canada and the US to provide integrated services for clients and engage in local, national, and international projects

  • Fostering positive, long-term professional relationships with clients, contractors, consultants, and external agencies to support business development


Key Attributes/Requirements:



  • Knowledge of environmental compliance and associated provincial and federal guidelines/legislation, including CCME

  • Experience working on contaminated sites such as industrial facilities, refineries, military properties, commercial plants, federal government properties, airports, mines, power plants, wind farms, and solar facilities with proven ability to design and implement field programs, analyze data, write reports, provide quality control, and present results to clients

  • Experience responding to Requests for Proposals, Expressions of Interest, and Statements of Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Behavior-Based Safety Systems, including developing and using Job Safety Analyses and conducting Job Observations

  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites and meetings as needed


Qualifications & Experience:



  • Over 5 years of direct experience with Contaminated Sites and Site Remediation

  • A Bachelor's Degree or Technical Diploma in Environmental Engineering, Geoscience, focusing on Site Investigations, Remediation, Risk Management, and Environmental Monitoring

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer or Geoscientist in Nova Scotia or other Atlantic Canada Provinces is a plus

  • Registration as a Contaminated Sites Professional within Nova Scotia or other Atlantic Canada Provinces, or possessing the credentials to become registered after employment, is advantageous

The salary range for this position is $57,000-91,000. The base salary represents Arcadis’ hiring range for this position. Actual salaries will vary and will be based on various factors, such as location, skills, experience, and qualification for the role.
