Position Overview:


Stanley is seeking a highly skilled Industrial Designer – Soft Goods to join our multifaceted and fast-growing design team in Seattle, WA. As a leading global company in the consumer goods industry, we are dedicated to crafting world-class products that expand the way people enjoy food and beverage.

The Industrial Designer – Soft Goods will be instrumental in developing creative, human-centered design solutions that put our consumer’s first. This is an outstanding opportunity to become a creator, builder, and inventor by joining The Stanley Industrial Design team. The role involves collaborating across teams to take soft goods products from concept to production, ensuring consistency in visual design language, functionality, and manufacturability. You will play a key role in driving innovation within the product creation team and contributing to our ambitious growth plans!

This position is a hybrid role based in our Seattle, WA offices.


Key Responsibilities:


Design

  • Help lead the creation of innovative soft goods products that drive the Stanley brand forward by connecting with consumers and their needs. This position ensures aesthetics, function, and brand integrity are maintained when integrating new soft goods within our product line.
  • Proven track record of applying human-centered design principles and consumer insights to guide decisions and solutions throughout the design process.
  • An established workflow that includes the creation of sketches, prototypes, detailed digital renderings and prototypes to communicate design intent, while crafting a product vision for the Stanley team.
  • Integrate cutting-edge technologies in CMF (Color, Material, Finish), fabrics, trims and manufacturing into design workflows.
  • Have an awareness and understanding of current and emerging micro and macro trends, with the ability to identify and apply to design projects.


Communication


  • Proven track record to sell, share and critique ideas internally with well-communicated research, well-reasoned design decisions, and excellent visual aids.
  • A history of delivering design solutions by creating highly detailed and accurate specification drawings as well as managing updates and revisions that ensures design intent.
  • Maintain product documentation and manage updates throughout the design lifecycle to ensure accuracy and alignment within the various teams.


Collaboration


  • Work with both hard goods and soft goods teams to ensure cohesive product designs that complement each other. Align material choices, colors, finishes, and textures across both categories.
  • Serve as a key collaborator across the design team, sharing knowledge and supporting broader company goals.
  • Interface with and support the internal development team to build manufacturable and cost-efficient product.
  • Foster excitement and energy for design within the team and across departments.


Education and Experience Requirements:


  • Bachelor's or Associate’s degree in industrial design or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in soft goods design, with a track record of timely delivery of successful products across various categories—such as fashion bags, lifestyle accessories, technical outdoor products, luggage, etc.
  • A refined sensitivity to form and function with the ability to translate design goals into manufacturable products that meet financial and design targets.
  • Proven strong skills in quickly communicating function, form and visual expression through hand and digital sketches, renderings and/or CAD software.
  • Proficiency with design related software including Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and CLO3D.
  • Competence in prior PLM software, Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Powerpoint, Teams, etc..) and an undertanding of Solidworks, AutoCAD, Rhino a plus.
  • Knowledge of cut and sew materials and processes including laminations, welding, sewing, foams, fabrics, and trims.
  • Solid understanding of plastics, metals, foams, and associated manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working directly with overseas developers and vendors to realize concepts that meet costing, preserve design intent, and are manufacturable.
  • Must include professional portfolio with examples of soft good products.
  • Travel 10%, contingent on travel restrictions.


Salary Range:


$90,000-$115,000 Annually

The base pay range for this position is for a successful candidate within the state listed. The successful candidate’s actual pay will be based on multiple factors, such as work location, job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, and experience.
