Job Description:




TEA is hiring a full-time upper school educator who can engagingly teach three to four sections of high school math. TEA’s course needs are fluid, as is the nature of the post. However, applicants with experience in teaching middle and high school integrated math at any level (CC2 - IM3) will be most competitive. As an integral part of the upper school team, the teacher supports student work and performance, collaborates with the core teacher across subject areas, participates in project instruction, co-plans and co-executes fieldwork that integrates TEA’s pillars and communicates with parents regarding student progress, projects, and fieldwork. 




Job Schedule:



  • The primary role for this position posting is to cover a planned medical leave in the math department from February 1st to June 15th. This includes planning and teaching IM1, IM2, and IM3, serving as a 10th grade Crew leader (advisor), and engaging in our spring fieldwork programming. 

  • TEA would like to start employment this fall and prior to the medical leave coverage. The role would serve as either a part-time upper school assistant math teacher in CC2, CC3 and IM1, or as a full-time math teacher. 

  • TEA will consider starting employment this fall for competitive applicants, serving as either a part-time upper school assistant math teacher in CC2, CC3, and IM1 or as a full-time math teacher in the same role. 

  • As our upper school grows and our faculty needs expand, this posting caries significant consideration for long term employment, beyond the 2025-26 school year.




Essential Functions:



  • Develop and deliver high-quality lessons and units in line with curricula of the school with the aim of addressing the varied learning needs of individual students and educating the whole child. Exact course loads depend on the nature of the filled post as described above. However, the position is generally:

    • To teach 3 courses of math in the Upper School

    • To serve as a 10th grade Crew leader

    • To participate as an expedition leader in our Spring Expedition programming.



  • Teach high school courses in a project-based, engaging manner

  • Work across and among grade bands to integrate high school math curriculum effectively into our school-wide scope and sequence.

  • Serve as a grade-level CREW leader responsible for knowing students well, developing and actuating CREW meetings on a weekly basis.

  • Organize and carry out grade-level fieldwork and project-based studies, spending 17-25 nights in the field per school year.  

  • Create and deliver curriculum consistent with the schools’ mission.

  • Employ varied approaches to support student progress on an ongoing basis.

  • Provide formative and summative feedback on progress to students and parents in a timely manner.

  • Maintain up-to-date documentation regarding student skills, progress, and knowledge in accordance with school-established guidelines.

  • Follow-up on parent communications within 24 hours.

  • Provide updates to parents to communicate progress on students’ learning and social-emotional growth.

  • Take on other duties such as homework support and lunch supervision.

  • Learn, maintain and enforce policies around course content, attendance, behavior, learning support, assessment and TEA’s Constructive Adversity model.

  • Incorporate hands-on learning experiences to augment and support classroom learning.





      • Abide by TEA’s internal procedures including but not limited to finance, transportation, HR, admissions, marketing, fundraising, etc.



      • Attend Faculty/Staff Meetings and participate in school-wide events occasionally after hours.

      • Agree to and abide by the expectations outlined in the Tahoe Expedition Academy Employee Handbook.


      Minimum Qualifications Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:  



      • Bachelor’s degree in math, or a closely related field.

      • At least 3 yrs. teaching and/or professional experience in the field of math and/or related professional education.



      • Must be able to present Common Core based curriculum for multiple levels including Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus.

      • Strong background in multi-disciplinary and/or expeditionary and/or experiential education.

      • Strong interpersonal skills and willingness to work in collaborative teaching team.

      • Ability to develop connections and collaborate with other academic departments, and/or industry leaders.

      • Strong ability to provide and accept coaching and feedback from peers and school leadership.

      • Evidence of professional development and interest in additional professional development and growth.


      Preferred Qualifications



      • Master’s or other advanced degree in math, education, or a closely related field.

      • Experience in a professional field commensurate with academic training.

      • Certification or licensure to teach 9-12th grade mathematics issued in the United States.

      • Additional certifications such as Special Education.

      • Current authorization to work in the United States. Candidates must have such authorization by their first day of employment.

      • Current Wilderness First Aid certification, Wilderness First Responder certification more preferred.


      Physical Requirements:


      Must be able to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs, etc. Must be able to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking, physical requirements are consistent with those for Light Work.
