The Head Summer Camp Counselor will assist in the development and implementation of programming for the Summer Camp. The incumbent will create positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers.
Qualifications:
- Minimum age of 18.
- High school diploma or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in a day camp setting.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills a must.
- CPR/First Aid/AED Certification – training will be provided.
- Ability to work with people from a variety of different ethnic, socioeconomic, educational, religious, sexual, and generational backgrounds.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in planning, supervising and implementing the summer camp program in accordance with the goals and policies of the YMCA.
- Ensure the health and safety of all children in the program at all times; implement emergency procedures as necessary. Actively participate with all children.
- Assist in supervising assigned grade levels in Summer Camp. Mentor, supervise and evaluate part of the Summer Camp counselor team. Support staff with behavioral and programming issues, provide program support where needed; be a role model.
- Be flexible and assist in any and all areas of the Summer Camp programs and activities.
- Maintain program areas and adhere to program standards in regards to equipment, storage, safety and cleanliness.
- Maintain consistent and open verbal communication with parents throughout the Summer Camp program.
- Implement the YMCA Safety Around Water Program.
- Attend all staff meetings and training programs as it pertains to the Summer Camp Program.
- Follow YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergency procedures.
