What will you do in this job?

  • Responsible for the overall management and operation of all Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and Day Lodge facilities, including but not limited to:
  • Ensuring the safety and security of all guests and employees while on Fox Island
  • Meeting or exceeding industry and Company standards of guest service and product quality
  • Responding to guest comments, complaints and concerns to ensure that guest expectations are met through Trip Advisor, Revinate, guest comment cards and day-to-day issues
  • Ensuring facilities meet or exceed legal, industry and Company standards for cleanliness and maintenance of facilities, such as:
  • Daily, weekly and ongoing maintenance and cleaning in and around the facilities
  • Compliance with regulations relating to cleaning and sanitizing guidelines for kitchen, dining room and food storage areas, such as refrigerator, freezer and cooler space
  • Developing and coordinating regularly scheduled safety meetings and drills
  • Maintaining adequate daily and ongoing inventory of all lodging supplies, food and dry goods at both the Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and Day Lodge
  • Coordinating and managing duties associated with start-up and close-down of Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and Day Lodge facilities
  • Responsible for the effective and efficient recruitment, training, supervision and performance of Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and Day Lodge staff:
  • Recruits, hires and terminates seasonal staff utilizing the Application Tracking System in conjunction with People & Culture resources
  • Coordinates and manages the start and end-of-season duties in relation to all Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and Day Lodge facilities
  • Develops and manages daily staff schedules and duty rosters
  • Staff training to ensure guest service principles are consistently applied to achieve and exceed overall guest satisfaction
  • Responsible for accurate timesheets of all staff members; reviews and approves staff timesheets
  • Responsible for accurate tip sheets of all staff members; reviews and approves staff tip sheets
  • Ensures all cash is secured, deposits are made on a regular basis, and all accounting paperwork, including daily revenue reports, timecards, invoices and statements are provided to the Alaska Collection accounting department in a timely manner
  • Participates in the annual operating and capital budget formation; ensures annual budget is met or exceeded
  • Responsible for maintaining routine and emergency channels of communication with the Kenai Fjords Tours office in Seward, AK
  • Coordinates with Kenai Fjords Tours operations and vessel staff for arrival times, passenger counts, shuttle times and supply delivery
  • Other duties as assigned

What skills and experience do you need for this job?

Skills + Abilities

  • Working knowledge of the principles and practices of the tourism business in Alaska, including state government, industry organizations and large private industry influences
  • Working knowledge of food, beverage and hospitality services and operations
  • Working knowledge of maintenance and safety standards in the hotel industry
  • Strong supervisory/leadership skills with ability to effectively train, manage and lead staff
  • Good judgment in making sound decisions and effectively solving problems
  • Ability to work independently, in a team environment and with minimal supervision
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff, affiliated-company employees as well as outside business associates; exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and work effectively under pressure
  • Strong communication skills, both oral and written; ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedures manuals; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from staff, managers and the general public
  • In-depth knowledge of Company policies, procedures and employee programs
  • Knowledge of Alaska Collection products and Kenai Fjords Tours operations, including details regarding boat tours and transportation operations
  • Proficient using industry-standard computer software and databases
  • Work extended hours, various shifts and holidays and weekends
  • Live in close quarters with others in a remote wilderness setting

 

Physical Abilities:

  • Must be able to work in the outdoors and traverse uneven terrain daily
  • Office time is limited, there is a lot of time spent between the Day Lodge and Wilderness Lodge
  • Ability to assist with tri-weekly shuttles unloading items from boat-to-dock-to-carts-to-location
  • There are three to four large shuttles per year requiring all hands on deck with heavy lifting and unloading
  • Ability to maintain balance upon a floating dock
  • Ability to climb ladders, climb stairs and navigate uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to see, hear and verbally communicate with regular frequency
  • Ability to kneel, crawl, bend and twist at the waist
  • Ability to reach at, above and below should3r height with regular frequency
  • Must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 45 pounds on a regular basis, and great weights on occasion
  • Must possess sufficient fine and gross motor skills to operate computers
  • Minimum Qualifications:
  • Some college education
  • 3-5 years’ of practical experience in hotel and/or restaurant management, hospitality management or any combination of education and experience that provides the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities
  • Supervisory experience
  • CPR certified required
  • First Aid certified required
  • ServSafe Manager Certificate required
  • Previous success in producing profit and guest satisfaction in the hospitality industry
