The Experiences Coordinator is responsible for coordinating educational and interpretive activities AMC’s lodges and visitor centers. This position will oversee seasonal staff naturalists who provide daily programming for AMC guests and visitors. This position develops the educational curriculum around AMC’s mission including science communication, land conservation, and joyful outdoor experiences. The Experiences Coordinator provides training and supervision for staff and volunteer naturalists. This person will also support delivery of our signature events series, and assist with the planning of evening programs. Through this self-motivated, skilled employee, AMC provides a pathway for guests and visitors to gain understanding and inspiration for AMC’s mission of integrating conservation ethics in recreation.

 

 

What you’ll be doing at AMC

  • Develop and maintain educational materials at the huts and lodges including training manuals, on-site libraries and games, Junior Naturalist materials, and other education supplies.
  • Hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff naturalists.
  • Implement thematic, place-based environmental education and natural history curriculum.
  • Collaborate across departments at AMC to incorporate standard mission messaging into all activities.
  • Plan and implement activities at lodges/ visitor centers during summer, weekends, holidays, and high season.
  • Support delivery of signature events including a concert series, See the Dark festival, and Gravel Biking events.
  • Assist in planning and promoting lodge evening program series.
  • Coordinate with multiple departments across AMC to execute consistent delivery of activities including routine communication between management, operations and frontline staff, and volunteers.
  • Provide on-site support for programs including daily interpretive programs, junior naturalist programs, staff naturalist programs, and evening programs.
  • Lead activities at the lodges during off-peak times.
  • Perform logistics functions including maintaining inventory of teaching supplies across locations.
  • Travel to and be familiar with operations of AMC lodges, visitor centers, and backcountry huts.

Qualifications

  • Friendly, outgoing, flexible personality with a commitment and enthusiasm for working with people.
  • Strong knowledge of natural history in areas where AMC operates.
  • Experiential teaching experience, including curriculum development.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and ability to work with participants across a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • · Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with coworkers across multiple departments.
  • Experience with training and mentoring staff.
  • Ability to create an emotionally safe and inclusive learning environment, create a positive group culture, and build a healthy rapport with youth.
  • Wilderness First-Aid & CPR certification or the ability to obtain certification prior to starting employment.
  • Bachelor’s degree with course work in natural sciences, experiential education, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Work requires occasional backcountry travel. Requires ability to hike 6 – 8 miles per day on uneven terrain, carrying a backpack and other equipment up to 40 pounds, in all weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work long hours in mentally and physically demanding conditions
  • Satisfactory driving record and background check, as verified by state record check.
  • 21+ years old and the ability to obtain DOT medical clearance to drive vehicles strongly preferred.

 

What AMC Can Offer You

Salary: $34,185 - 46,140

We are committed to equitable compensation practices. The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, competencies, and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
