Summary

The Environmental Scientist will conduct various environmental services, including assessments, reporting, and evaluations for environmental projects. Key responsibilities include maintaining client relationships, performing field work, supporting internal processes, contributing to financial objectives, and participating in ongoing learning and growth.

Duties and Preferred Skills

  • Perform wetland delineations and stream assessments following USACE and state protocols.
  • Conduct surveys for threatened and endangered habitats.
  • Proficient in identifying plants and wildlife.
  • Skilled in soil identification and characterization.
  • Knowledgeable about Section 10, 401, and 404 of the Clean Water Act (CWA), the USACE 1987 delineation manual, and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) E1527-21.
  • Experienced in conducting environmental field investigations and data collection/sampling.
  • Develop comprehensive permit application components for the USACE 404 Permit program and related state programs.
  • Complete Environmental Site Assessments (ESA) to identify Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) and other adverse environmental conditions as outlined in the scope of work.
  • Review previous assessment reports, historical and regulatory records for the property and for the surrounding area, and report data in accordance with ASTM criteria and/or client's scope of work.
  • Conduct interviews with appropriate project stakeholders and government officials to obtain information concerning the environmental conditions related to the property and adjacent properties.
  • Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.
  • Prepare draft technical reports and summarize survey findings.
  • Excellent planning and organizational abilities, with effective problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Capable of working year-round under various climate and field conditions, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.


Qualifications

  • B.S. Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or related degree.
  • 0-2 years of experience in environmental science.
  • Preferred: 3 months of relevant internship, work, or research experience.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to perform field work and lift 25 lbs.
  • Prolonged periods sitting, working on a computer, and performing physical activities like standing and bending.
  • Willingness to travel overnight and work extended hours as needed.
  • Able to work in office and outdoor environments with varying noise levels, including moderate office noise and loud construction sites.
