Summary. ESC is seeking a skilled and motivated Environmental Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will lead field work, conduct environmental sampling and assessments, and prepare technical reports. The ideal candidate will have 1-3 years of experience and be located in the Kansas City. This position is hybrid and will report in to the Overland Park office Tuesday - Thursday.


  Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

· Conduct field investigations, including sampling, monitoring, and site assessments for various environmental media (soil, water, air, mold, , lead-paint).

· Serve as primary lead and point of contact for smaller-scope projects. 

· Assist in the preparation and execution of Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) and other environmental documents such as work plans.

· Collect and analyze environmental data, ensuring accuracy and completeness.

· Prepare detailed technical reports and documentation, including data interpretation, findings, and recommendations.

· Support project managers in project planning and execution, as needed.

· Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, state, and local environmental regulations and guidelines.

· Communicate effectively with clients, team members, and regulatory agencies.

· Participate in health and safety training and adhere to company safety protocols.

· Provide technical assistance in environmental permitting, investigation, and remediation projects.

· Stay updated with emerging environmental regulations and best practices.

· Prepare proposals and associated cost estimates. 

· Attend conferences and presentations as requested.

· Actively participate in client prospecting and opportunity plans.


Requirements

    

Minimum Education and Experience:

· Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Biology or other Relevant Science field.

· 1-3 years of experience in the environmental sector 


Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

· 40 Hour HAZWOPER

· Asbestos and/or Lead Inspectors licenses 

· Proficiency in GIS and other environmental software. 

· Involvement in professional societies. 

· Experience working for a federal contractor.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Knowledge of federal environmental regulations such as CERCLA , RCRA, CWA, CAA, and NEPA 

· Knowledge and familiarity with numerous sampling protocols such as but not limited to low-flow technology, grab sampling, composite sampling, etc.

· Proficient in data analysis and technical report writing. 

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

· Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.


Other Requirements:

· Valid driver’s license

· Ability to travel 25-50%, depending on project schedules.

· Ability to gain access to military installations


Work Environment:

· Regularly required to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.

· Required to work in the Overland Park office, Tuesday – Thursday.

· Ability to travel to project sites as required, including overnight stays. 25-50% travel required, and will vary depending on projects. 

· Driving required. 


Physical Abilities:

· Ability to lift and carry equipment and samples weighing up to 50 pounds.

· Ability to walk, hike and work in outdoor environments, including rugged or uneven terrain, for extended periods of time.

· Ability to work in various weather conditions (e.g. rain, heat, cold).

· Ability to work on feet for extended periods during field investigations.


Salary. The base salary range for this position is between $59,000.00 to $65,000.00. The actual base salary offered depends on factors, including but not limited to, qualifications, years of relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, business need, and market demand.
