Director of Travel Industry and Leisure Sales

SUMMARY

The Director of Travel Industry and Leisure Sales is responsible for the development of strategic plans to positively impact leisure and business travel market.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Direct the identification, sales efforts, and relationships with individual travel producers including travel management accounts, retail travel agents, consortiums, and wholesalers.
  • Assist in the integration of individual property efforts into the overall Montage International strategy.
  • Direct the efforts to garner and organize relevant competitive information.
  • Assist in the creation and analysis of financials including budgets, forecasting, rates, and pricing guidelines.
  • Run appropriate reports.
  • Establish Leisure and Business Travel Marketing and Action Plans.
  • Establish wholesale, retail, and corporate travel (where appropriate) target lists. Attainment of annual room night and revenue goal for the leisure and business travel market sales program.
  • Initiate contact with perspective business travel accounts as identified through direct sales program.
  • Coordinate special promotional events for key leisure and business travel customers and their clients, i.e. General Manager’s receptions, customer appreciation parties and incentives, etc. Prepare bi-annual evaluation of individual companies in order to review the results in unison to ensure business and leisure travel guidelines are being met.
  • Make qualified sales trips and solicit new clients on behalf of Montage International.
  • Represent property at appropriate travel industry tradeshows, conference and meetings.
  • Monitor mailings to leisure and business travel customers with updates of programs and events on behalf of the Montage International.
  • Review account’s production and travel pattern to determine the appropriate market segment for negotiation.
  • Participate on the hotel revenue management team.
  • Ensure that travel industry policies and wholesalers are known and adhered to by all hotel and office staff.
  • Interact with Public Relations to ensure everyone is updated on new programs, packages and travel industry events that could make for positive public relations coverage in the trade or local media.
  • Responsible for maintaining VIRTUOSO program; updating VIRTUOSO NET, participation in various publications, seeing that amenities are properly delivered, etc.
  • Maintain active liaison with competitors regionally and nationally through personal contacts and professional associations. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • College Degree preferred, high school or equivalent education required
  • Minimum of four (4) years of sales experience in a luxury hotel or resort environment
  • Requires strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Most tasks are performed in a team environment with the employee acting as a team leader; there is minimal direct supervision
  • Ability to communicate customer needs and resolve complaints independently
  • Ability to establish and master goals
  • Ability to identify and develop accounts
  • Must possess computer skills, including, but not limited to, accounting programs, Microsoft Word, Excel and Delphi
  • Math skills, as well as budgetary analysis capabilities required

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to sit at a desk for up to 5 hours per day. Walking and standing are required the rest of the working day. This may include traveling to and from meetings. Must be able to exert well-paced ability to reach other departments of the hotel on a timely basis. Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs. occasionally. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, supervisors and subordinates.

The pay scale* for Director of Sales, Leisure is $115,000 to $128,000.
