SUMMARY:
UIHS Dentists Provide comprehensive dental care services to clients of United Indian Health Services (UIHS).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must be willing to learn more about the American Indian culture and attend at least one Cultural Presentation/Training per year.
- Performs clinical dental services for clients which include examinations and treatment planning, oral cancer screenings, dental restorations including amalgams, composites, crown and bridges, pit and fissure sealants, extractions, root canal therapy, minor oral surgeries, periodontal treatments, full and partial denture construction, routine and emergency dental services and other required procedures.
- Administers and prescribes medications, anesthetics, and medicaments.
- Oversees training of dental support staff at orientation and staff meetings.
- Assists in development and implementation of clinic policies and procedures.
- Responsible for patient referrals to appropriate UIHS clinic sections internally and providers/specialists externally.
- Attends section meetings and other meetings as assigned.
- Travels to satellite facilities to complete dental tasks as assigned.
- Maintains a professional, organized, clean working environment by following organizational policies, guidelines, and safety standards.
- Assists in development of policy, procedures, and quality improvement activities within the Dental Services Section as directed.
- Performs all duties in accordance with the UIHS Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
- Assists in the interviewing, hiring, and training of employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Educational degrees must be from a US Department of Education accredited school.
Dentist I:
- Graduation with a DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the American Association of Dental Education
Dentist II – In addition to above-stated duties:
- Post-doctorate education/experience to include completion of an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) or General Practice Residency (GPR) program and/or
- Full-time post-doctoral clinical dentistry experience greater than two (2) years.
Dentist III – In addition to above-stated duties:
- Greater than five (5) years of full-time post-doctoral clinical dentistry experience.
Dentist IV – In addition to above-stated duties:
- Greater than eight (8) years of full-time post-doctoral clinical dentistry experience or
- Completion of Master’s degree in any of the approved dental specialties deemed important to better serve UIHS clients.
COMPUTER OPERATIONS:
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
