This is a SHIPBOARD role. 
You must: 
  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel 
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan 
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control 
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations 
Your Responsibilities: 
  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this) 
  • Complete a pre-employment medical 
  • Obtain a criminal background check 
  • Bring approved work shoes 
**Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination. 
 

  • Minimum eight to ten years experience working within a position that demonstrates hosting experience, stage experience and public speaking skills
  • Minimum of eight years experience in a senior leadership role
  • Previous ship operations experience in role of Cruise Director, Assistant Cruise Director or similar
  • College degree or related schooling associated with recreation, education, entertainment, or related field of study preferred
  • Proven extensive operational experience with an understanding and awareness of Crew/Entertainer challenges on all levels
  • Proven leadership experience that will lead, inspire, engage and motivate Crew at all levels
  • Proven ability to integrate the Entertainment experience in partnership with multiple lines of business
  • Demonstrated solid knowledge of Entertainment Operations business practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated solid business acumen focusing on execution
  • Demonstrated passion for character and show integrity that delivers against the Disney Brand
  • Exceptional relationship, communication, partnering, presentation, microphone, and organizational skills
  • Ability to be flexible, self-motivated, handle multiple demands, stay calm under pressure and resolve issues quickly
  • Ability to seek out Guest contact while displaying boundless amounts of energy, outgoing attitude, enthusiasm, and self-motivation
  • Relates well to audiences of all ages and demographics while offering a passion for engaging an audience in entertaining program and event
  • Maintain performance and vocal quality
  • Ability to perform in environments that have second-hand smoke, pyrotechnics, chemical smoke, haze, fog, dry ice, and other special effects


  • Member of shipboard Steering Committee, serving as ‘General Manager’ for onboard Entertainment 
  • Responsible for leading the daily onboard operation and execution of all aspects of the entertainment product and services for Disney Cruise Line
  • Responsible for the delivery of seamless and flawless Guest and Crew Entertainment experiences centered around the following areas:
    • Youth Activities 
    • Adult and Family Events & Activities 
    • Stage shows 
    • Technician Management 
    • Character Operations 
    • Port Adventures
    • Atmosphere Entertainment 
    • Special Events 
  • Profit & Loss responsibility for all labor and other expense elements; manage overall Entertainment budget, focusing on cost management and budget control
  • Provide daily leadership, coaching, development, and mentoring for all direct reports; Direct reports include: 
    • Cruise Director in Training
    • Assistant Cruise Director
    • Manager, Youth Activities
    • Manager, Port Adventures
    • Manager Entertainment Technical
    • Entertainment Operations Assistant
  • Responsible for directing all Guest events and onboard entertainment 
  • Serve as the primary communicator for ship wide announcements
  • Ensure daily schedule of events and activities onboard and ashore in ports of call proceed as scheduled; make necessary adjustments, taking into account Guest count, Guest mix, weather, etc.; provide timely information to Guests on necessary changes
  • Oversee implementation, execution and day-to-day delivery of Guest service; Lead team in focusing on Guest Satisfaction Measurement, appropriate cruise and quarterly targets, enhancements to the Guest/Crew experience while maintaining a high level of consistency in current product
  • Promote revenue-generating opportunities to maximize business results as well as Guest satisfaction
  • Partner with Marketing/Promotions and onboard departments to plan and execute special events
  • Facilitate department meetings
  • Integrated focus on leadership development and succession planning
  • Partner with Human Resources and Labor Management; Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 
    • Managing personnel files
    • Conducting performance reviews, including discipline as needed
    • Ensuring Project Onboard compliance
    • Onboard training, new hire and developing leaders
    • Crew recognition and communication 
  • Communicate with VP-Entertainment Operations regarding consistency of operation between ships, show quality, Crew scheduling, team performance, etc. 
  • Partner with shore side Entertainment/Port Adventures Operations Leadership, Recruiting and Scheduling regarding returning leaders and future openings
