JOB TITLE  Resident Care Specialist / Certified Nursing Assistant


Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing ADL assistance and supervision of specific personal cares for residents; food preparation and serving; cleanliness of the environment and physical building; laundry; and participation and engagement in social activities for residents. 


Reporting Relationships

This position receives general supervision from the Medication Aide, Director of Healthcare, and Administrator


Functions



  1. Adheres to Waterford’s procedure for receiving report from off-going shift and giving report to oncoming shift, maintaining appropriate and confidential communication.

  2. Follow the written care plan when providing care for residents. Document and follow through immediately on any change in condition of residents by proper notification to the Medication Aide and/or Director of Healthcare and make adjustments to care plan as needed and as directed by DOH.

  3. Greet and assist visitors, and receive and direct telephone calls to appropriate personnel.  Posts messages according to procedure.

  4. Follow Waterford’s policies and procedures regarding resident emergencies, documenting the event and the procedures used as soon as possible and forwarding information to the appropriate personnel.

  5. Assists with admission of residents including, but not limited to, preparing room for new residents, introducing new residents to current residents, helping with unpacking, touring the facility, and marking of resident’s clothing.

  6. Assist as needed with orientation and training of new personnel.

  7. Attend all mandatory staff meetings as required by the Waterford.

  8. Assures delivery of optimum resident care by being to work on time, as scheduled, and providing appropriate advance notification according to Waterford’s policy and procedures.

  9. Performs all duties according to applicable federal, State, and local regulations.

  10. Communicate and interact positively with all staff members and residents and maintain a professional, calm demeanor, even in stressful situations.


Equipment Operation

Keys, telephone, pager, thermometer, BP cuff, ambulation equipment (walker, crutches, cane, etc.), wheelchair, gait belt, urinals, shower and/or bath chairs, bath scale, calculator, copier, fax machine, computer.


Physical Requirements Needed to Perform This Job

Physical stamina required for bending, stooping, lifting, walking, and standing for long periods.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must possess knowledge and ability to organize and perform required skills to complete job functions with interruptions. Need to be a self-starter, have a compassionate and caring nature, understand how to work with an aging population, and seek to understand the needs of the residents.  Must be responsible, dependable, have compassion, emotional stability, and a pleasant disposition. Knowledge and awareness of safety needs are required. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the English language adequately to understand and be understood by residents, visitors, and staff.  A keen sense of taste and smell, and personal cleanliness are important qualifications. Ability to accurately follow instructions, both verbal and written, and the ability to remain calm in stressful/ emergency situations. Able to work independently. Must possess the ability to respect confidential information and treat residents and co-workers respectfully.


Work Conditions

Indoor work in well lighted, and ventilated surroundings.  Stands and walks with intermittent sitting during the working shift.  Possibility of sprains and strains due to moving and lifting residents, minor cuts and burns from machines and chemicals, and walking on wet slippery floors during baths/showers, so must be knowledgeable of and follow all safety procedures for position in order to prevent injury to self and others.  Must be aware of and follow infection control procedures and universal precautions.


Licensure/Certification



  • Preferred- Active on the Nebraska Nurse Aide Registry

  • Preferred- Current CPR certification 


Education/Training and Work Experience



  • Must be 16 years of age or older.

  • Preferred- Active on Nebraska Certified Nurse Aide registry and CPR Certification
