OUR SUMMER SCHEDULE:
Our summer begins with 11 days of staff training starting June 17-27, 2025. Camp sessions run from
June 29, 2025 through August 9, 2025. Opportunities are available for those staff members interested
in working at camp from mid-June through the end of August and beyond.
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community
through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Teen Coordinator provides
quality teen leadership programs that are safe, fun, and encourage teen to grow and learn in a
supportive environment. The Teen Coordinator will also assist the cabin leader in managing the health,
welfare, and development of a group of 6 to 10 campers on a 24-hour basis under the direction of the
Camp Director and Assistant Camp Director.
What We’re Looking For
We are looking for mature staff members to role model healthy living and the YMCA’s four character values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. We expect our staff to have a genuine liking for youth and a character that fits our camp values.
Camp is for people who love working with kids and roughing it in the outdoors. The ideal staff member enjoys hiking, camping, and cooking over a fire. They don’t mind the insects or rodents and can survive without a shower everyday. Staff must feel comfortable working as a part of a team, have the desire to pitch in when needed and stay positive throughout these experiences. The staff must be able to uphold the standards and policies and be willing to live in an alcohol, tobacco and drug-free living environment. This will be a challenging and rewarding summer job experience!
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Work with the Director Staff to develop, implement, and coordinate the Teen Leadership Programs
that meet or exceed program standards.
2. Assist with scheduling, coordinating, organizing, and leading camp activities as well as providing
administrative support.
3. Facilitate a fun group living experience in an outdoor environment for campers, helping each
camper meet the goals established by the camp for camper development.
4. Provide camper supervision within established policies, procedures, and risk management
guidelines.
5. Monitor camper eating habits, health, and hygiene, notifying the director staff immediately of any
concerns.
6. Maintain camper discipline within established policy and provide positive behavior management to
promote developmental asset building.
7. Maintain clean, attractive, safe, functional facilities and food service equipment that meet or exceed
American Camping Association standards, Washington Health Codes and YMCA standards.
8. Review, practice, follow and make recommendations to improve safety procedures and practices at
Wenatchee Valley YMCA Lake Wenatchee Resident Camp.
9. Responds to emergency situations.
OTHER POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Act as a positive role model and mentor for campers and other staff, demonstrating the values of
caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility in the performance of job duties.
2. Lead and assist in program areas and special activities as scheduled.
3. Prepare for and actively participate in staff training and staff meetings.
4. Provide input on seasonal summer staff performance to the Camping Services Director to assist
with the evaluation process.
5. Maintain and deliver accurate records.
6. Assists in security of camp participants, property and facilities.
7. Documents all accidents/ incidents per established YMCA policies, procedures and as required by
law.
8. Perform other duties as may be assigned.
The Camp Facilities and Site
Camp is a rustic living environment, with several modern conveniences. Most cabins sleep 8 people and have electric lights. While all cabins have windows and doors, small critters will likely visit from time to time. Showers and restrooms are centrally located in our main lodge with additional Showers and restrooms located in the Outdoor Environmental Education Building. Camp has a somewhat rugged and hilly terrain, with temperatures in the summer ranging from 40 to 95 degrees Fahrenheit.
