Echo Lake Camp is a full-service AMC facility featuring platform tents, three family-style meals per day in the dining hall, a recreation hall, a library, and a private waterfront with swimming and boating. What You'll Be Doing at AMC
The Manager at Echo Lake Camp leads all aspects of camp operations, fostering a welcoming, inclusive community while maintaining the camp’s cherished traditions. This role involves supervising staff, managing logistics, and ensuring an exceptional guest experience in the heart of Acadia National Park.
Summer Season Responsibilities (Expected 12 weeks):
Guest Relations:
Act as the primary host/hostess, promoting a positive and safe guest experience in a rustic family camp setting.
Provide exceptional service to campers by addressing needs, ensuring comfort, and supporting the camp’s welcoming environment.
Uphold the camp's unique "sense of place" and maintain its traditional simplicity.
Be present for and make announcements at all meals.
Ensure all campers feel welcome and supported throughout their stay.
Camp Operations Management:
Oversee the opening of camp, including staff training, cleaning, and setup.
Lead a seasonal team of up to 10 crew members and 4 senior staff, fostering camp spirit and ensuring smooth daily operations.
With the Assistant Manager and Head Cook, train the crew in camp skills, provide mentorship, and maintain high morale and team cohesion.
Supervise food service operations with the Head Cook, including menu planning, budgeting, and meal preparation.
Collaborate with volunteer hike leaders, naturalists, and evening activity leaders to deliver enriching camper activities.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and AMC policies and regulations.
Coordinate the closure of camp and manage off-season use by AMC groups.
Serve as the primary point of contact for camp vendors and partnerships, including hiring, managing, and overseeing work, scheduling, payments, etc.
Staff Scheduling and Administration:
Oversee staff payroll and ensure timely execution.
Organize and lead weekly whole staff and senior staff meetings.
Hold volunteer leader meetings, distribute first aid kits, and ensure safety standards.
Coordinate with AMC staff and manage injury reports.
Ensure state inspections and water testing are completed as required.
Operate and manage the Camp Store, including sales and inventory control.
Approve bills, monitor credit card expenditures, and coordinate rental vehicle arrangements.
Work with the bus company to coordinate transportation and bus drivers.
Manage camper registrations and tent assignments in coordination with the registrar.
Collaborate with the Treasurer to resolve issues and complete weekly reports.
Coordinate volunteer workdays, pickup mail/newspapers, and order park passes.
Oversee the laundry process, track bed nights, and maintain the office.
Food Service Oversight:
Supervise food service operations with the assistance of the Cook, including menu planning, food budgeting, ordering, and meal preparation.
Gather and provide guest feedback.
Ensure all food orders remain within budget and meals are served on time.
Collaborate with the Cook to ensure the kitchen is maintained to safety standards and equipment is in good working order.
Facility Maintenance:
Oversee and guide the Assistant Manager in maintaining clean, safe, and compliant camp facilities.
Coordinate with camp committee leadership on larger purchases and maintenance plans.
Business Operations:
Manage camp finances, including guest accounts, vendor payments, and budgeting.
Coordinate camp operations with the volunteer camp committee and AMC staff leadership.
Maintain accurate records, ensure adherence to AMC policies, and handle payroll procedures.
Respond to guest emails and inquiries in a timely manner.
Collect and deposit fees from campers on a weekly basis.
Other Responsibilities:
Ensure that camp operations meet safety standards.
Attend and lead trainings and supervisory meetings as required.
Promote AMC programs and encourage membership to support its conservation mission.

The Manager will balance the camp’s cherished traditions with a commitment to maintaining an equitable, inclusive, and culturally relevant environment for staff, guests, visitors, and volunteers. Outstanding management skills are essential, along with the ability to cultivate an atmosphere where guests can relax, recreate, socialize, and engage with environmental stewardship.
A college degree is preferred; however, equivalent experience in outdoor education, program management, or facility management will be considered.
Strong management experience, particularly in team leadership, operations, and guest services.
A demonstrated ability to create a welcoming environment that encourages recreation, socialization, and environmental stewardship.
Manager will be required to get and maintain a Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or higher level certification.

Strong guest service skills, professionalism, and a commitment to the mission of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
Exceptional interpersonal skills to mentor and inspire a team of young adults and volunteers.
Commitment to sustainability and familiarity with outdoor recreational programming.
Knowledge of outdoor conservation principles and recreation activities.
Proven ability to effectively lead, motivate, and manage a team.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in managing competing priorities.
Personal Attributes:
Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
Flexible and adaptable, with the ability to work a varied schedule, including overnight support at Echo Lake Camp as scheduled.
Reliable and resourceful, with the capacity to handle long or irregular shifts as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand, sit, or walk for up to 8 hours at a time.
Fiscal Management:
Strong organizational and fiscal management skills, with experience managing budgets and logistical operations.
What AMC Can Offer You
Salary range: $1,875 - $2200/ per week

The initial salary represents our starting point, and our compensation philosophy is designed to reward and recognize the contributions of our employees as they grow within the organization. External candidates typically begin their journey with us at the starting point of the salary range. The final compensation offer will be based on factors such as experience, education, skills and geographic differential relevant to the position, and will be discussed during the interview process.
