Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Provides direct supervision of a group of children throughout the day.Β  Creates positive, nurturing relationships with children, while building cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. Promotes and supports the potential of campers and facilitates peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience. The role of a Counselor is to participate, build relationships and have fun while ensuring the physical and emotional safety of every child.

Timeframe

June 23 – August 15, 2025 (no camp July 4)

8:00am-3:30pm OR 9:00am-5:30pm

Essential Functions

  • Facilitate all activities for your group: morning rotations, lunch, SEL, group time, divisional time, theme days, etc.
  • Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
  • Cultivates positive relationships and maintains effective communication with parents, children, and staff. Models’ relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Work with group of campers and provide a fun, safe and exciting camp experience.
  • Cooperate with the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, Activity Leaders, and all fellow staff.
  • Greet campers upon arrival.
  • Additional help where needed when asked to by the Camp Director, Assistant Camp Director, and/or Activity Leaders.

  • Ability to help children grow in character, experiences, and insights.
  • Ability to always guard the health and well-being of campers.
  • Capable of sustaining energy for participation in a full day's worth of activities

Qualifications

  • Entering first year of college, or equivalent.
  • Prior experience working with children.
