Camp counselors will assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their camper group within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes. They will participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers. Counselors must maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. They should be role models to campers and staff in their attitude and behavior. Counselors represent the camp when interacting with parents and community members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, and respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth.
• Responsible for leading and teaching of activities.
• Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs.
• Set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship.
• Provide parents any feedback and information as needed for their campers to have a successful camp experience.
• Assure campers are properly supervised at all times and follow safety guidelines
• Work with other staff to coordinate lunches, check in and check out.
• Provide a progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities.
• Be alert to camper needs and assist them with personal and/or health problems; discuss with camp manager when appropriate.
• Interact and participate with all campers.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
• Must enjoy working with children
• Experience working with kids preferred
• Enthusiastic and energetic personality
• Attention to detail and problem solving skills
• Work Monday-Friday from June-August
Physical Demands:
May sit, stand, stoop, bend and walk frequently during the day. May stand four (4) to eight (8) hours per day. May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds on occasion. Visual acuity to see and read fine prints. Specific vision abilities required by this role include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to hear normal voice sounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this role.
