Position: Associate Director, Engineering
Department: Engineering – Advanced Technology, Beauty and Wellness
Work Location: Marlborough, MA, Hybrid (work 3 days onsite)
Hybrid Schedule: Helen of Troy associates enjoy the advantages and flexibility of a hybrid working model, allowing for in office 3 days minimum, and remote 2 days. Any changes to this working model would be communicated accordingly.
What you will be doing:
Proven innovator to help lead the development and evaluation of new technology and business opportunities across all our Beauty and Wellness brands. Would work closely with our business and marketing partners to understand consumer needs, then identify potential technologies or partners to bring those new features to life.
Looking for creative thinking and ability to see how technologies can be embraced and demonstrated as well as an ability to distill sophisticated technical work into easily understandable information that can be used by our business partners. Has the potential to lead Advanced technology for the Beauty and Wellness business in the 4–5-year time frame.
Work alongside Marketing partners to help understand consumer pain points and think creatively on solutions to address
Lead technology searches and the evaluation of potential solutions
Help the team build compelling prototypes and test methods to validate efficiency or reason to believe in the innovated solution or approach
Work with the Intellectual Property team to understand both Freedom to Practice as well as new potential I.P. for the given approach
Develop budget and timing estimates as well as timely updates on program progress
Advanced Technology leadership for Beauty and Wellness (B&W) (4–5-year time frame):
Leading all B&W technology activities
Helping to set roadmap for B&W
Leading and managing a group that will include scientists, engineers and technicians
Managing all laboratory equipment – maintenance, training, operation, and justifying new equipment
Establishing and maintaining best practices for the group and the laboratory
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
Confirmed innovator demonstrating outstanding ability to see connections and build new opportunities leveraging a science-based approach
Good communicator showing the skills to distill sophisticated problems and opportunities, so they can be communicated to team leadership
Confirmed lab skills able to generate compelling data sets by crafting new validated methods to quantify performance or demonstrate goals
Flexible and ability to prioritize and communicate progress or where more time or money is needed to move forward.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Experience in consumer product development environment
10+ years new technology and product development experience
Strong analytical, product innovation experience
Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
PhD
Evidence of innovation as patents or published papers
