As an Assistant Cruise Director you will partner with the Cruise Director to oversee the daily operation of all entertainment and adult/family programming. You will provide the master entertainment schedule and oversee ship-wide guest communication and collateral while partnering with onboard leaders.

This is a SHIPBOARD role.

You must:

  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations

Your Responsibilities:

  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
  • Complete a pre-employment medical
  • Obtain a criminal background check
  • Bring approved work shoes

  • Minimum of five years experience in a leadership role

  • Minimum five years experience working within a position that focuses on hosting experience, stage experience and public speaking skills

  • Previous ship operations experience in role of Cruise Director, Assistant Cruise Director or similar

  • 5+ years of experience leading and motivating a team

  • Good understanding and respect for Entertainers

  • Look for Guest interactions while displaying boundless amounts of enthusiasm

  • Relate well to audiences of all ages and demographics while offering a passion for engaging an audience in entertaining program and event

  • Microphone skills, team skills, detailed, flexible, and committed to Guest Satisfaction

  • Maintain performance quality and the ability to perform rehearsed roles, including scripts

  • Perform in environments that have pyrotechnics, chemical smoke, haze, fog, dry ice, and other special effects



  • Oversee the day to day operation of all onboard Entertainment, inclusive of Cruise Staff and Adult & Family Programming, Character programing and Leadership, Mainstage Cast and Stage Manager, as well as the Entertainment Integration Manager and all printed collateral/ digital signage - providing leadership, coaching and development for all direct reports
    • Direct reports include: Senior Entertainment Manager, Stage Manager, Character Manager, Crew Engagement Manager and Entertainment Integration Manager
    • Dual direct reports include Entertainment Hosts, Cruise Staff, Mainstage Cast and Character performers.
  • Provide master Entertainment schedule, including but not limited to all Guest and ship wide communication and collateral
  • Responsible for onboard Bingo program and revenue targets
  • Be prepared to cover for Cruise Director in all aspects of this position
     

  • Partner with Manager, Port Adventures and aquatics to ensure smooth dispatch operation (involving Cruise Staff/ Entertainment Hosts) on port days
  • Responsible for overseeing all music offerings
  • Partnering with Entertainment Technical team to ensure balance of background music, moving/set-up of musician equipment, costuming needs, etc.
  • Overseeing music sets throughout the ship in all venues, inclusive of outer deck/ dining areas, and Castaway Cay.
  • Communicate with Cruise Director and shore side Director, Entertainment Operations regarding consistency of operation between ships, show quality, Crew scheduling, team performance, etc.
  • Manage performance and show-related issues, including procedures and show quality
  • Assist in overseeing onboard Adult & Family operational budget
  • Partner with Cruise Director, Guest Communications Manager and Entertainment Integration to gather information for the Personal Navigator all other onboard printed collateral; draft, edit, proof and publish
  • Maintain open communication with all partners on the daily schedule of ship events and shows seeing that all changes are accurately reflected and followed through on
  • Partner with Marketing/Promotions and onboard departments to plan and execute special events
  • Partner with shore side Director, Entertainment Operations, Recruiting, and Labor Scheduling regarding returning Crew and future openings
  • Facilitate department meetings
  • Provide leadership for all direct reports; responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
    • Managing personnel files
    • Conducting performance reviews, including discipline as needed
    • Ensuring Project Onboard compliance
    • Monitoring STAR, while making necessary corrections
    • Onboard training, new hire and ongoing
    • Succession planning
    • Crew recognition and communication
