College Background:

Paul Smith�s College is a private, four-year institution with approximately 750 students in both undergraduate and graduate programs. Known as the �College of the Adirondacks,� we are the only baccalaureate-granting institution located within the six-million-acre, world-famous, �forever-wild� Adirondacks in New York�s North Country.

Position Description:

Paul Smith�s College is seeking a full-time, academic-year appointment to the faculty serving the Hospitality, Sustainable Tourism Management, Business, Communication, and/or Sports and Event Management Programs. The ideal candidate will have a combination of management education and professional experience in several of the college�s programs emphasizing sustainable tourism. The candidate will have the ability to utilize prior experience to design experiential learning coursework using project-based learning, software simulations, site-based consultancies, and client assignments. Background in international ecotourism, heritage tourism, and community-based tourism best practices is considered an asset. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to work well in teams and to communicate effectively with colleagues, students, and external constituencies are essential competencies. Academic rank is open and will be determined by qualifications and experience.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a full range of sustainable tourism, sport management, and communication courses potentially including Managing the Social Impacts of Tourism, Ethics in Sport, Field Studies in Hospitality, Sustainable Practices in Entrepreneurship, Strategic Communication for Sustainability, and Sport Marketing, among others.
  • Preparing and maintaining programs for continuous professional development and enhancement of industry relations, including current and potential internship and field study sites.
  • Assessing and improving student learning.
  • Contributing to curriculum planning and development.
  • Managing and /or assisting with special projects, recruitment initiatives, and campus events including, but not limited to orientation programs, open houses, and community service activities.
  • Active participation with school and college committees

Qualifications:

  • A master�s degree in Tourism Management, Business Administration or one of the related fields of Entrepreneurial Studies, Recreation, Sports Management, Communication or Hospitality Management.
  • A background of professional experience that demonstrates the ability to successfully work and advance in a commercial environment at a supervisory or managerial level.
  • Digital literacy in software and internet applications related to the aforementioned industries.
  • A demonstrated ability to disseminate information to a diverse group in an engaging, experiential manner.
  • A record of success in a team environment.
  • Ability to work with a broad range of diverse individuals and groups to form a safe and inclusive campus community.

Preferences:

Preference will be given to candidates with:

  • PhD in a related field.
  • Post-secondary teaching experience, including the use of computer applications for classroom instruction.
