Are you happiest when youre outdoors being physically active? Do you enjoy working with youth? Are some of your own best memories from camping trips, mountain climbing, hiking, water sports? Do you believe that if kids could spend more time outdoors, theyd learn more than sitting in class? Do you like a flexible work schedule? If you answered yes, you may have what it takes to be an Outdoor Adventure Guide for Arc Experiences.
Arcs Outdoor Adventure division is looking for qualified guides who enjoy working with student youth. We focus on leadership and life skills more than technical backcountry skills, so if youre game, join our team and well teach you the backcountry skills. We use natures classroom to inspire and empower student youth with at-school outdoor education like team building and obstacle courses, or offsite adventures like kayaking or bike-riding. You will be on the front line of our work, supporting students in their social-emotional learning, building their confidence, and helping them see their own potential.
The skills and experience were looking for include:
2+ years of work experience with K-12 students.
Must be available to work during the week and weekends.
Understanding of outdoor education or leadership development programs.
Experience in adventure activities highly preferred. Our most common programs include hiking, biking, kayaking (well teach you too!), rock climbing, and team-building activities.
Youll provide a physically and mentally safe environment for outdoor education, using activities to foster individual growth, personal confidence and responsibility, self-reliance, and leadership.
Ideally, you take an encouraging and patient approach with students.
Be able to participate personally in activities.
Oversee up to 20 students during their experiences, using your skills in age-appropriate behavior management.
Stay laser-focused on participant safety and be certified in first aid, CPR, and basic wilderness safety protocols.
Drive vehicles (with and without student passengers) and other staff in accordance with Arcs requirements. You will be trained to use a vehicle that tows a climbing wall and youll do occasional training brush-up.
There is some administrative paperwork for each outing.
Were looking for great team members, people willing to assist with event prep and post-event tasks such as cleanup and inventory. And were all ears to your ideas on how we can improve our programming or simplify logistics.
You should have basic familiarity with Leave No Trace (LNT) concepts.
High school diploma or GED required (bachelors degree highly preferred).
Valid California drivers license (commercial drivers license a plus)
You will be required to take CPR and first aid training or provide certification that you have been certified within the last 12 months.
Take/pass a TB test and a Live Scan background check
Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
If you are an English-Spanish bilingual speaker, your resume will stand out!
