Ascendigo is a nonprofit organization that enhances the lives of children and adults living with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through therapeutic recreation, employment, community integration, education and an array of behavioral health services. We are headquartered in Carbondale, CO. Currently, Ascendigo employs more than 50 full- and part-time year-round staff members and approximately 30 additional employees during our seasonal summer camp programming.

Job Summary: Duties include day-to-day accounting & bookkeeping, payroll and benefits processing, cash management, monthly billing, and monthly ledger reconciliations and report preparation. Experience in general ledger accounting, payroll, and QuickBooks required; familiarity with health care services/insurance billing and ADP payroll processing a plus. Position is supported by a Billing Specialist and reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

 

Key Responsibilities: (list 3-5 key responsibilities with tasks below each one)

Finance:

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping: Billing, A/R, A/P, banking, and payroll (using QuickBooks). (Supported by a Billing Specialist).
  • Process and manage biweekly payroll, payroll records, payroll tax compliance and benefits withholding activity.
  • Prepare monthly customer invoices (supported by Billing Specialist).
  • Manage cash and A/R balances.
  • Prepare monthly accounting reconciliations: bank and credit card statements, and general ledger accounts, including basic accrual entries.
  • Prepare basic monthly financial statements (in support of the CFO).
  • Assist in the annual budget preparation (in support of the CFO).
  • Prepare nonprofit donation accounting entries (in coordination with Chief Development Officer).
  • Support staff in day-to-day billing and payables inquiries and transactions.

Compliance:

  • Oversee aspects of regulatory compliance related to payroll and finance-related areas.
  • Assist with bookkeeping, accounting, general ledger reconciliations, and financial reporting skills.
  • Responsible for payroll and benefits processing.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail, prioritize tasks, work independently, and strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with HIPAA privacy requirement for patient information regarding confidential information.

Administrative:

  • Demonstrate ability to analyze financial data create financial reporting.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in QuickBooks, Microsoft office (Word and Excel) and other office software applications.

 

In addition,

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field.
  • Must be age 21 or over and have legal working status.
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license and excellent driving record.
  • Must have a clean background check with no felonies or flags.
  • Strong bookkeeping and high-level accounting or Controller experience.
  • Experience with accounting reconciliations and payroll processes.
  • Applicants are required to have and use their own smart phone for work duties.  Ascendigo provides a monthly cell phone stipend for this use.
  • Skilled and competent in Quickbooks Software and basic computer skills (MS Office, email, social media)
