Wake Forest University School of Medicine’s Department of Emergency Medicine has several current opportunities to join our growing academic faculty team at our main campus location in Winston-Salem, NC in preparation for clinical expansion and new care space in 2025.

Clinical Assistant Professor, Academic Nocturnist: faculty position dedicated to clinical teaching and patient care activities during overnight hours in both our adult and pediatric emergency departments. This permanent nocturnist position will be responsible for excellent patient care, bedside teaching of residents and medical students, and participation in the teaching academic mission. A full clinical faculty appointment at the School of Medicine will align this position with opportunities for academic advancement. The ideal candidate for this position will be Board Certified in Emergency Medicine and/or Pediatric Emergency Medicine with demonstrated accomplishments in teaching and education in a clinical environment.

Assistant/Associate Professor, Academic Faculty: faculty position with a scholarly focus in clinical research, educational scholarship, patient care operations, or another academic area of interest. This full-time academic position includes expectations for scholarly productivity and publication, involvement with regional and national professional organizations, and active engagement with all areas of our clinical care, education, and research missions. This position requires current Board Certification or Board Eligibility in emergency medicine, and additional fellowship training or areas of demonstrated accomplishment are highly valued. The ideal candidate will have scholarly publications and disseminated academic work in an area of focus within a defined area of emergency medicine.

Assistant/Associate Professor, Pediatric Emergency Medicine: faculty position with a scholarly focus that improves healthcare for children. This full-time academic position includes expectations for scholarly productivity and publication, involvement with regional and national professional organizations, and active engagement with all areas of our clinical care, education, and research missions. This position requires current Board Certification or Board Eligibility in pediatric emergency medicine, and additional Board Certification in emergency medicine is highly valued. The ideal candidate will have scholarly publications and disseminated academic work in an area of focus within pediatric emergency medicine.

Assistant/Associate Professor, Cardiovascular Clinical Research: faculty position with a scholarly focus in clinical research related to improving care for patients with cardiovascular emergencies. This full-time academic physician position includes patient care duties and expectations for scholarly productivity and publication, extramural funding, and involvement with regional and national professional organizations. The successful candidate will join our highly productive and collaborative team of faculty members, research coordinators, and statisticians with the opportunity to join successful grant-funded research projects that are already in process. Educational and career development opportunities and mentorship will support the candidate’s development into an independent researcher. This position requires current Board Certification or Board Eligibility in emergency medicine.
Our Emergency Department has been a Level 1 trauma center since 1982, with numerous specialty accreditations including an accredited chest pain center, stroke center, one of just two burn centers in North Carolina and full subspecialty backup. The co-located Brenner Children's Hospital Emergency Department is North Carolina's first Level 1 pediatric trauma center. Our clinical affiliate physicians staff 27 emergency departments across the state. Together our Emergency Medicine physicians provide services to over 800,000 patients each year. Our Emergency Medicine residency program celebrates 50 years of training this year and is among the oldest in the country with highly competitive recruitment of trainees. Fellowships are offered in Emergency Medicine Research, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Emergency Medicine Administration/Leadership, EM Ultrasound, EMS, Wilderness Medicine, and Global Emergency Medicine. Our exceptional faculty are highly productive clinically and academically with a well-funded research program, active research projects in many different areas, and high faculty retention.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MD/DO; BC/BE in emergency medicine and/or pediatric emergency medicine
- NC licensure/eligibility
- Rank at time of hire commensurate with academic accomplishments.
