Job Summary:
The Historic Preservation Crew Lead Carpenter oversees historic preservation projects and carpentry work in the Old Faithful area of Yellowstone National Park. This full-time, year-round role ensures preservation standards are met, provides technical guidance, and supports maintenance operations while promoting safety and sustainability.
The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Pay: $24.50/hour
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Responsibilities
Supervise the Historic Preservation Crew in executing planned and emergent preservation projects.
Train maintenance staff on proper techniques for working on and around historic structures.
Ensure compliance with preservation standards and approved materials in all maintenance activities.
Provide technical carpentry support and augment maintenance staff when needed.
Deliver general carpentry training and advice to maintenance teams.
Maintain the highest quality standards in historic preservation per National Park Service and Secretary of the Interior guidelines.
Enforce safety protocols and maintain safe work environments in shops and field sites.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Minimum 5 years of hands-on historic preservation experience.
Proven experience supervising construction or preservation crews.
Proficiency in carpentry tools, their safe use, and maintenance.
Working knowledge of the Secretary of the Interior Standards for historic preservation.
Familiarity with OSHA safety requirements (Fall Protection, Lead Hazard Awareness, Asbestos Awareness).
Scaffolding “Competent Person” certification or ability to obtain within 60 days.
Valid driver’s license with a clean 3-year driving record; must be at least 21 years old.
Ability to interpret and comply with company policies and procedures.
Preferred Qualifications (if applicable):
Formal training or certification in historic preservation or carpentry.
Experience working in National Park Service or similar heritage environments.
Advanced knowledge of traditional woodworking techniques and restoration methods.
Familiarity with sustainable building practices and materials.
Strong leadership and team development skills in remote or challenging environments.
Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and preservation plans.
Proficiency in project planning and scheduling for preservation projects.
Experience with snow coach or snowmobile operation for winter access (or willingness to learn).
Physical Requirements include:
Ability to use respiratory protection as required.
Walk on uneven terrain and climb stairs/ladders in all weather conditions.
Lift up to 70 lbs and perform moderate-intensity labor at altitude (6,800 ft).
Stand, bend, kneel, and crawl for extended periods.
Willingness to reside year-round in a remote location with limited winter access (snow coach or snowmobile only).
