Job Description
The Fitness Instructor leads engaging, safe, and inclusive group exercise
classes that support members of all fitness levels, with a focus on seniors.
They design and deliver effective workouts that promote health, wellness, and
functional movement, while ensuring safety, offering modifications, and creating
a welcoming environment for all participants.
The pay rate for this position is $15.23-$21.00 based on experience and
certifications.

SUMMARY/PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Fitness Instructor will provide state-of-the-art group exercise instruction
that contributes to each member or guest’s fitness goals. To develop and
instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes for all fitness
and skill levels.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all

- Develop and instruct fun, energetic and highly motivational exercise classes
for all fitness skill levels. Offer alternatives during classes to
accommodate different levels of fitness.
- Educate participants concerning safe exercise techniques and monitor safety.
- Verifies class participants are rostered to ensure drop-in fees were paid.
- Provide / assist in fitness assessments, orientations and tours.
- Assist in the development of systems that safeguard all facilities, supplies
and equipment related to the fitness programs.
- Utilize the office support system that will allow for timely and accurate
record keeping, including the areas of statistical reports related to all
fitness programs, accounting of expenditures, and other reporting as
required.
- Ensure the attractive appearance, operational function, and general upkeep
of the fitness facilities including equipment and furnishings.
- In conjunction with the facilities department, execute an on-going
preventative maintenance program for the fitness facilities and equipment.
- Directly oversee the work of any aides assigned to work in the program area
at all times and ensure that minor support staff are never left unattended
with program participants.
- Participate in designated staff training and professional development
courses.
QUALIFICATIONS

MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT: Uses a variety of office equipment including a
computer, telephone, fax machine, copiers, printers and projection machines.
Operate motor vehicles in the execution of some essential functions.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- 1+ years of experience teaching various or specific group exercise programs
* OR –
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the
required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: First Aid, CPR and AED Certification for Adult,
Child, and Infant to be obtained with 30 days of hire. Current certifications
through ACE, ACSM, AFAA or NSCA or any unique certifications pertaining to a
specialized group exercise class or format – Zumba, for example - preferred.

This job is performed at times in an office environment at normal room
temperature. The noise level in this work environment is usually low.
For other duties of this job, such as outdoor special events and community
center activities, the employee may be exposed to weather conditions prevalent
at the time. The noise level in the work environment at these events is usually
moderate to loud.
