Job Summary Job Description Overview Under minimal supervision, the Aquatic Maintenance Technician is responsible for the repair and maintenance of aquatic facilities such as swimming pools, waterparks, aquatic centers, spray grounds, and public interactive water features to ensure safe operation in accordance with state and local health standards in the City of Dallas Park and Recreation Department. Essential Functions 1 Performs routine as well as emergency repair and maintenance of pumps, motors, chemical feeders and controllers, autofill systems, backwash filters, pool surfaces, waterslides, play structures and other pool equipment. 2 Maintains water chemistry and clarity by using various tests to diagnose water quality issues, makes calculations and adds the needed chemicals to adjust readings to proper levels that conform with state and local health standards and prevent waterborne illnesses. 3 Follows manufacturer’s and environmental guidelines in the handling, storage and use of pool chemicals and other hazardous materials. 4 Maintains all pool masonry including plaster, tile, coping stone, concrete deck, and pool surfaces to ensure patron safety and maintain the physical appearance of pools, spray grounds, and fountains. 5 Examines aquatic facility water circulation and filtration systems to identify operational defects by various troubleshooting and diagnostic methods. 6 Maintains and repairs all aquatic facility amenities and equipment to include ladders, lifeguard stands, climbing walls, diving boards, water slides and play features to maintain the safe operation, physical appearance and overall condition of the swimming pools. 7 Performs winterization of equipment and performs preventative maintenance tasks to preserve and extend the lifespan of all facility features and equipment. 8 Inspects aquatic facilities for hazards. 9 Completes inspection checklists, inventories and other required documents. 10 Contributes to the team by accomplishing related tasks to get results and meet department goals. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 1 Knowledge and understanding of state and local codes and health standards related to aquatic facilities such as swimming pools, waterparks, aquatic centers, spray grounds, and public interactive water features. 2 Knowledge of various trades such as plumbing, electrical, concrete work, and painting. 3 Knowledge of the methods, materials and equipment involved in the operation and maintenance of aquatic facilities. 4 Knowledge of and ability to maintain pool filtration systems. 5 Knowledge of standard safety practices for working around heavy mechanical equipment and hazardous materials such as chlorine and muriatic acid. 6 Knowledge of water chemistry and chemical control systems. 7 Ability to program, calibrate, and maintain automated chemical control systems. 8 Ability to use light equipment such as vacuum pumps, power tools, and hand tools. 9 Ability to troubleshoot and perform basic maintenance on pool heating systems. 10 Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with all levels of management, city officials, vendors, other government agencies, other employees and the general public. Minimum Qualifications Experience Two (2) years experience in the maintenance and repair of aquatic facilities. Licenses and Certifications Must have a Texas Class C driver’s license. Education High School Diploma, GED Preferences Certified Pool Operator Certification or Aquatic Facility Operator Certification. Other Requirements Work Environment & Physical Requirements Subject to various working conditions associated with pool maintenance including working outdoors in various temperature extremes and inclement weather. Subject to working in wet conditions with varied water temperatures. Risk of exposure to pool chemicals such as chlorine and muriatic acid as well as the risk of injury while maintaining and repairing pool motors, pumps, filters and chemical feeding equipment. Requires the performance of physical activities such as lifting and carrying supplies and equipment and the physical exertion required to perform equipment maintenance and repairs. Requires standing, walking, bending, climbing, lifting, dragging, and pushing. May require working weekends and/or evenings and holidays depending on the season. May be on call 24 hours a day. Salary Range $23.68 - $26.61 The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications. City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
