Work of this class involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities. Incumbents receive close supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a variety of part-time schedules. Work is performed in recreation centers, athletic fields and other recreational facilities where inclement weather may be encountered. Work requires moderate physical exertion. Essential Functions The following examples illustrate the work performed in the positions in the class. Positions may require some or all of these examples depending on the organization of work within the agency. This list is not inclusive. A Position may require related duties not listed, if necessary to accomplish the work of the agency. Assists in organizing and leading various recreational sports, games and other activities. Answers inquiries concerning recreation center and program activities; registers participants. Receives training in the rules, regulations and methods of leading games and activities. Encourages group participation and maintains order. Distributes and accounts for equipment, materials and supplies. May prepare and maintain non-complex records and reports. May provide instruction in such activities as sports, dramatics, music and arts and crafts. Performs related work as required. Minimum Qualifications Education: Varies upon the functional duties of the position AND Experience: Varies upon the functional duties of the position OR Equivalency Notes: Have an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to learn the use and care of a variety of recreational equipment. Ability to learn the rules, regulations and methods of leading games and activities. Ability to deal effectively with others. Ability to maintain order. Additional Information Background Check Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint screening, and must be successfully completed. Probation All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a 6-month mandatory probation.
