We are currently seeking a talented individual to join F.H. Collins Secondary School team. FHC school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. FHC is a dual-track English / French Immersion school, grades 8-12, of approximately 775 students, serving a diverse cultural population. This position is for a part-time (0.875) French Immersion teacher for FI Sciences Humaines 9, FI Sciences Humaines 10 and Social Justice 12 (English), for Semester 2, January 20, 2025 – June 13, 2025.

Essential Qualifications



  • Bachelor of Education or equivalent

  • Undergraduate degree in history (preferred) or geography;

  • Experience teaching students with a wide range of abilities;

  • Experience adapting curriculum and assessment to meet a wide range of abilities;

  • Experience teaching Social Science at the secondary level;

  • Fluent in French, oral and written


 


Desired knowledge, skills, and suitability


The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:

 



  • Superior classroom management, curricular and lesson planning skills, with demonstrable skills in student engagement;

  • Demonstrated ability to foster experiential learning within a traditionally academic course

  • Demonstrated ability to involve student use of technology in demonstrating learning, and knowledge of digital citizenship

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills working with students, parents, staff members, community members and administration;

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt curriculum to meet a wide range of learning styles and abilities, including for students with IEPs;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Canadian historical and social events, particularly those related to First Nations and Reconciliation;

  • Willingness and ability to work as a member of a professional team to promote and work collaboratively to support school initiatives and the total school program;

  • Ability and interest in working to support the whole school culture and environment beyond the classroom (eg. Sports, experiential opportunities, clubs)

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity towards the culture and aspirations of Yukon First Nations and a culturally diverse student population, with the ability to incorporate and promote First Nations principles of learning in the classroom


 


Conditions of Employment


This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:



  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

  • To be a Teacher in Yukon, you must be certified in another Canadian province/ territory first.

  • Yukon First Nations 101 to be completed within one year.
