We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Secondary School team.  St. Francis School provides a faith-based, Roman Catholic education within the public school system of Yukon Education. Our school sits on the traditional territory of the Kwanlin Dunn First Nation and Ta’an Kwachan Council within the wilderness city of Whitehorse, Yukon. SFACS is a 8-12 school of approximately 450 students, serving a diverse cultural population. Our educational professionals facilitate academic excellence and model life-long learning. We assist students in developing a relationship with Jesus and appreciation of self and others. The uniqueness of each child is celebrated. This position provides support for individual students or small groups of students who have special needs. These needs may be academic, medical, social-emotional, or a combination of all. Students with such needs may demonstrate behaviours that require patience, compassion, and knowledge of strategies that support neuro-diverse learners.

Essential Qualifications  


Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:



  • Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;

  • Experience working with youth;

  • Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset;

  • Fluency in French or Tagalog would be an asset;

  • Experience working with students with special needs, non-verbal, hearing impaired would be an asset;

  • Knowledge of grades 10-12 math, science or work experience would be an asset.


 


Desired knowledge, skills and suitability


The ideal candidate will possess these qualifications, skills, and knowledge, but also demonstrate suitability for the role and organizational culture:



  • Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;

  • Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;

  • Ability to work as a member of a team;

  • Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

  • Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision;

  • Willingness to work in a Catholic learning environment


 


Conditions of Employment 


This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:



  • Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

  • Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months

  • Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the school year
