SUMMER CAMP COUNSELOR

NATURE OF WORK
This seasonal position directs the recreational activities for children in grades k – 3. The camp runs for six weeks in the summer (June 16 to July 25), Monday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at four of the elementary schools. Work is performed with independent judgment under the general supervision of the Summer Playground Supervisor. This position is not eligible for paid sick hours, due to being a six-week, seasonal position.
Applicants for playground camp counselor must be at least 15 years of age.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk, bend, stoop; use hands to handle, or feel equipment and supplies. The employee is required to sit at times on the floor or ground with children and reach with hands and arms. The employee will need to be able to stand for long periods of time, up to 3 hours, engage in play with camp participants, and be able to run after the camper if they attempt to leave the camp location. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing, eyesight and verbal communications to record, prepare and communicate appropriate camper activities.
