The Summer Camp Counselor is energetic and ready to dive into a summer full of fun, friendship, and exploration with the youngest members of our community. The successful candidate will be responsible for the implementation of activities such as gross motor games and exciting art activities, AND responsible for the safety of the children at all times.




A camp counselor shall have attained one of the following qualification levels:



  • A high school diploma OR a general educational development certificate and 30 credit hours from an accredited college/university in early childhood education, child development, special education, elementary education or the human services field.

  • A high school diploma OR a general educational development certificate, including 600 or more hours of secondary training described in (PA Code) 3270.319 (relating to age and training).

  • A high school diploma OR a general education development certificate, 15 credit hours from an accredited college/university in early childhood education, development, special education, elementary education or the human services field and 1 year experience with children.

  • A high school diploma OR a general education development certificate and completion of a post-secondary training curriculum described in 3270.31. (PA Code)

  • A high school diploma OR a general education development certificate and 2 years' experience with children.




Specific Responsibilities:



  • Uphold the policies and philosophy of the Beaver County YMCA.

  • Attend staff orientation, trainings and meetings when scheduled.

  • Maintain professional conduct and a neat appearance consistent with the YMCA Dress Policy.

  • Provide a safe, positive, nurturing environment for children.

  • Interact with the children who attend the program by organizing and participating in planned enrichment activities and/or special events.

  • Report all accidents/incidents to the Youth Director and fill out the appropriate forms.

  • Report needed repairs of dangerous situations to the Youth Director.

  • Understand and implement emergency safety procedures as necessary
