Are you interested in joining the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Patrol team for the 2023-2024 season?


 


Come join us at the end of April for a ski/ride test. Successfully completing the ski/ride test will put you at the top of the hiring list for the upcoming season.


 


Pre hire Clinic Schedule (subject to change):


7:00:                     Supervisor meet with potential candidates to set the plan for the day and Sign Release of Liability     


7:15:                     Pair with pro-Patrol proceed to gondola for the ride up to the alpine elevation


8:00                      Morning Meeting


8:20                      Morning stretch


8:30-9:30              Morning work


9:45:                     Meet at the Rendezvous/Roundhouse

10:00 –11:00:       Ski/Ride test with ski school representative 
This test will consist of a few laps to evaluate short radius turns, long radius turns, side slipping, kick turns/180s, moguls, stability etc.

11:00:                   Dismiss any one who does not pass the ski/ride test (you may still enjoy the rest of day skiing)


11:00-12:00:         Simple problem scenarios


12:00-12:30:         Lunch (pack a lunch)


12:30-2:30:           Knots and Rope


2:30-3:00:             Beacon Use Assessment


3:00:                     Re-group at Alpine Bump elevation


3:15-3:30              Debrief and Q&A


3:30-E.OD:           Exit interviews cont.


            


An OEC or OFA LVL or EMR (BC) is required before your official fall hire date prior to Fall


 


Job Summary:


Ski Patrol is responsible for performing guest service functions such as accident handling, administering first aid, trail maintenance, promoting and creating a safe environment for guests and employees, mountain sweeps, lift evacuation and explosives handling. 


 


Job Specifications: 



  • Starting Wage: $21 / hour

  • Shift & Schedule Availability:  Full Time and Part Time

  • Skill Level: Entry


 


Job Responsibilities:



  • Supervising and promoting guest safety on varied terrain in high altitude, with varying winter weather conditions

  • Assisting injured guests on the mountain and administering first aid

  • Transporting injured guests off the mountain using a toboggan or supporting air lift operations

  • Performing sweeps at the end of the day to ensure that all guests are safely off the mountain

  • Maintaining trails, such as removing debris and marking hazards

  • Transporting and setting up mountain safety equipment

  • Transporting supplies and heavy equipment to areas of need, on skis or snowboard

  • Avalanche control including safely transporting and placing explosives on the mountain and stabilizing snow pack and cornice edges on skis

  • Enforcement of the Skier Responsibility Code and Resort Policies

  • Chairlift and Gondola guest evacuation

  • Other duties as assigned


 


Job Requirements:



  • Must be at least 19

  • Valid 1st Aid certification as listed above

  • Valid BC Driver’s license (or able to obtain)

  • Must have excellent guest service skills

  • Must work well in a team

  • Must be able to work in inclement weather in a high alpine environment

  • Must have manual dexterity to operate equipment

  • Must have sight, speech, and hearing abilities sufficient to learn skills, follow and provide directions

  • Must be available to work holidays and weekends

  • Previous patrol experience an asset

  • Must be an advanced/expert level skier, capable of riding all types of terrain under all weather conditions. Must pass a ski check with resort Ski and Ride School.

  • Resort Certified in Blood-Bourne Pathogens training program, Hepatitis B Vaccination.  Resort Certification for any used equipment. Wilderness Emergency Certification a plus.

  • The employee frequently is required to reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 75 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
